Mass readings prior to VatII

I know that now we Catholic’s have a three year cycle of readings for Mass- year a, year b, and year c.

That came with the revisions of Vat.II.

How were the readings scheduled/set up it before Vat II?

Where can I find a source on this?
Also where can I find the **daily **scheduled readings? I forgot the name of the book.

Please help. Thanks.

You can find the set up here. I do not know how accurate it is: it appears to be quite so, but there some slight errors- like for the Monday in the 4th Week of Lent it is 2 Kings, not 2 Samuel. It is also based largely on the pre 1962 missal (not a big deal because the 1962 schema was used for not even a decade and doesn’t differ much. In the 1962 missal, the ember days and such had a slight adjustment on the days on which they were celebrated.)

There was no weekday Mass except for Lent and Ember Weekdays and the days within the Easter Octave. The readings at a weekday came from the previous Sunday’s Mass * since those texts were used throughout the week . Instead of that, however, the priest could say a requiem or votive Mass, in which case he would use the readings of that Mass. Usually, by custom, certain votives were assigned to days of the week. Of course, most of the time, a priest could choose another votive within the rubrics.
Saturday: BVM
Monday: Holy Trinity
Tuesday:Holy Angels
Wednesday:St. Joseph/ Ss. Peter and Paul/ Holy Apostles
Thurday: Blessed Sacrament/ Holy Spirit/ OLJC the High Priest
Friday: Passion of OLJC/ Holy Cross

• Like today, when in Ordinary Time on days with no feasts, the collect, prayer over the gifts and postcommunion for daily Mass are from the previous Sunday Mass.

I can see how such an error can happen. I have a Bible that calls 1 and 2 Samuel 1 and 2 Kings. 1 and 2 Kings are called 3 and 4 Kings.

Thank axolotl. I made a slight mistake though- it is found in 1 Kings (or 3 Kings) not in 2 (or 4) Kings, as I earlier incorrectly stated. It is the story of the judgement of Solomon.
