Is it very normal for a weekday Mass to conclude at just half and hour?

I just went for Mass today at one local parish, sad to say, the sound system was so bad that i can’t even hear what the Priest was talking about, in fact it was not the first time i encounter such cases coz i happened to another parish which i went sometime back. I guess CC have to ensure their sound system have to be loud and clear to ensure everyone can hear the words of God, else everyone can just go it and wait for the communion only…😦
 
Yes. Very normal. A weekday mass could be as short as 15 min. Many people go ont he way to work or at lunch, so the Priests tend to move things along. Usually, no singing/music, short/no homily, Eucharistic prayer II etc.
 
Yes. A weekday Mass, especially with a small congregation (meaning that not much time is needed to give out communion), can be relatively short. The creed is not recited at a weekday Mass. While a homily is usually said it can be quite short. Often there is little singing although usually there should be a spoken antiphon instead of an opening hymn.

The rest, about the CC (sic) and the sound system is anecdotal and has no relationship that I can see to the length of a Mass, nor to the teachings of the Church or anything else about a parish, so I don’t know why it was brought up. Sound system difficulties can happen anywhere and any time. :confused:

To hear the Mass better sit in the front pew.

I go before work, it takes about 30 minutes but it is never rushed or disrespectful. I find it to be more “spiritual” than the large Sunday Mass at my home parish. There are always the same people at morning mass, about 15 to 20 of us. We all know each other now and it’s just the best half hour of my work day. I think the Church I go to is very blessed because there is always a priest, a deacon, and a lay minister to do the readings at every morning weekday mass.
 
The thing is, once the parish is pack with members, then they are bound to have pple standing rite at the back w/o any seat, then how would those pple hear the words of God. I being to another parish near my house which have a very powerful sound system, even if you’re sitting rite at the back you can hear the words very clearly. But i guess older parish does not have such privilege as the church rather spend the fund on another thing…Well as a protestant , i am very particular about hearing the words of God , that is very very important to me. I have a ex catholic colleague whom to very picky about parish as he find those franciscan parish rather boring, i guess is not the words but more on the Priest, coz some Priest are like recite poem, some give lots of example to allow members to dissolve God’s words more effectively.😃

yes that is about average, a bit longer when we have the school children present. in the summer when size of congregation is down, we have daily Mass in the chapel, a lot better. For daily Mass we are supposed to all sit up front because he does not use the sound system, and if we sing it is a capella.
 
Ours during the week only lasts about 15-30 min. depending on whether or not there is a homily and how many people are there. So it’s not uncommon.
 
There is no reason for you to be able to “hear” the Word of God. The readings are in the Daily Missal and you can follow along in the Missal or in your Bible.

Much of the rest of the mass is responses and prayers, and we Catholics know these responses by heart. We don’t need a sound system to pray them. And for those who don’t know them, they’re also in the missal.

As for the homily, yes, it’s a shame to not be able to hear it. Sit closer. Or talk to the priest afterwards and ask if he can summarize his homily.

Please keep in mind that the mass is not a “teaching time.” It is one long prayer. It is worship of God.

Also remember that a good sound system is extremely expensive, and in many older churches, it costs even more because of the extensive re-wiring needed. I think many churches often have to spend their money on other more urgent priorities.

I’m sure they would welcome a financial gift to pay for a new sound system. But as I said above, it’s not necessary, since the mass readings are in the missal and people are supposed to be studying them before they even come to mass.

Don’t try to compare Catholic mass with Protestant worship service. They are NOT the same. It would be more accurate to compare Protestant worship service with Catholic Bible study.
 
Wow - standing room only at daily Mass! What a blessing! I’ve only seen that on Holy Days of Obligation. Thank GOD for that, and then head up a fund raiser for a new sound system.

partake eucharist in a CC, oh …nonono…i am not a catholic, so i will never partake it in a CC,
in fact i am very particular about communion, when i’m in a stage of sinning against God. I will forbid myself to partake communion at my local church.

**I come from a non demon church, of course i know i’m in a stage of sinning lol…like quarreling and yelling at mum…violate commandment!!! Also i enjoy reading manga (and some of it have those porn picture in them) of course sinning lor!!! **

Well now, it seems that the manga problem is rather easy to fix, but the quarreling will take some work…😉

Yes. Most people have a one-hour lunch break, and they will need time to get their lunch after Mass before returning to work.

This can happen anywhere. I have been in Protestant churches where the sound system wasn’t very good, too - either because the equipment was faulty or because people didn’t understand how it worked (standing too close to the speakers, or talking too close or too far from the mic, etc.)

Hm, so far i being to three different parish in my country. Namely…Holy Cross, St Joseph and Holy Family church…only Holy cross sound system are loud and clear where even i was seated right at the back of the pew i can listen to God’s word. The other two was just too soft and i can’t even hear anything, and beside that…you know if they are kids around…is even worst…you can’t even hear a single word. I find is a little difficult for parent to bring their babies and young kids to Mass, coz they have to attend to their kids at all time while listening…so how much can they pay attention to!!!**
