well Saturday night vigil.

picture this
A very old tiny rural weatherboard church. it has the most beautiful wooden Altar. it has three statues- Jesus, Mary, Joseph. It has one Cross with Jesus.
Very cold night- mid winter, one tiny bar heater. The congregation is farmers and retired.
The Church has not changed since pre Vat 11. We still have rails etc.
A visiting semi retired priest new to us, filling in.

He introduced himself, told us where his last parishes were. He, very approvingly , wore the vestments with agricultural symbols- wheat etc. It is a farming community .
His homily was not rushed, taking no notice of the cold. it was about why Jesus taught in parables- stories.
And how he really enjoyed the focus on Scripture and the word of God since Vat 11. He was explaining how Mass these days focussed lots more on these things in the Liturgys and Gospel readings , for the people.
Because Scripture is crucial to our faith.

At the end of Mass he said how lovely it was to be in a very old little rural weatherboard Church. And was telling us about the last little weatherboard church he had been in, somewhere remote.

One, holy, catholic, and apostolic church…our vigil mass homily was the same, why Jesus used parables! Main difference it was still in the mid 80’s F here, and the church was newer. Bless you for the mental image you have painted!
