The dismissal of the people in the Mass of All Time is “ite, missa est”, which means, roughly, ‘go, it is done.’ the word Mass comes from the Latin word “missa”.

I think.

Like Maurin said, it comes from the word “missa” which means “to send.” Since the “Ite, Missa Est” comes at the end of the Mass, it is like we are being sent, much like Christ sent the Apostles, into the world to live what it is we just professed to believe.

**It is insulting to Eastern Christians to call the Tridentine Rite “the Mass of all time.” What’s the Syariac Qorbono which is much older, then? Chopped liver?

ALL authorized Eucharistic liturgies of the Church are the Mass of All Time.**

I believe the phrase “Mass of All Time” implies that the Tridentine Mass is a superior rite, not that it’s older. Not sure, though.

**Superior to what?

The Church does not teach that the Roman rite is superior to anything in the Eastern Churches. No rite can claim precedence.**

Superior rite??? To the Qourbono (or Qourobo, or *Qourbana, *depending on the particular tradition) of the Syriac Churches???

I’m an Oriental who happens to appreciate the Latin Rite EF in a special way but no way, no how, it is it superior to any of the Eastern and Oriental liturgies. Is it equal in dignity? Yes, absolutely. There’s no question about that. Superior? No. There’s no question about that either.
