Hello everyone I have a couple of questions concerning the Mass.
Are you required to fast one hour before the start of the mass or one hour before revieving communion?
In states that allow concealed carry does the church have a policy against concealed carry in the sanctuary?
Thank you for your time

The fast is one hour before COMMUNION. I would consult the pastor or the diocese about the gun in church.

Canon 919
"One who is to receive the most holy Eucharist is to abstain from any food or drink, with the exception of water and medicine, for at least the period of one hour before holy Communion.
1 hour before receiving Communion.

Not sure about open carry.

Around here, some people get upset with a uniformed officer carrying his service piece in the church. I can imagine it would be frowned upon.

BTW, just to clarify - sanctuary = the elevated area immediately around the altar; nave = the pew area and aisles.

As a universal policy for the whole Church, you mean? No.

Individual bishops might have policies in effect for their priests or for the parish properties in their diocese. I would imagine that individual pastors might have policies for their parish, but I’m not aware of any.

The Knights of Columbus have open carry of swords. (Okay, dress swords, but it has not always been so.)

The Swiss Guard have open carry halberds, but concealed carry of all sorts of modern firearms.

So yes, policies differ widely about weapons in church.

Unless said officer is a member of the church and does this every time he/she goes to mass 😃 we have people with all sorts of uniforms come in.

Even for the Knights of Columbus, depending on the jurisdiction. I am *pretty *sure for instance that we *never *carry swords in churches of the Archdiocese of Washington DC (certainly not in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception).

Since one can’t be sure when exactly communion will be given after mass starts, a good rule of thumb, if going to 9:00 a.m. mass, don’t eat after 8:00 a.m.
