Fear reigns! Jesus said fear not! Who do you listen to?
Priests and bishops have been given authority by God. We should respect that authority. If the bishop chooses to cancel Masses for a week or two, it’s his right to decide that.

I’m gonna listen to my bishop, who was appointed by the Vicar of Christ, who holds that office in a direct line to Saint Peter, who was told by Christ, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

And masses are still being offered by the priests of my archdiocese – and I can still pray alone and with others. We are safe in the arms of Our Lord. All is well.

I listen to our Lord, who also taught us to be wise as foxes (prudence) and innocent as doves.

Are we on the road to Emmaus? No! He is risen!

Look up! Cheer up!

Fear reigns!
Fear does not reign.

Reality does.

Kirkland, Washington nursing home; since February 19, 26 residents have died, of whom 13 are confirmed due to the virus; another 6 deaths are tied to the center; and out of 180 employees, 70 appear to be infected along with another 50 of the residents.

One is not “fearing” because one uses common sense. And that has nothing whatsoever to do with the devil.

Who do I listen to? My bishop; my pastor; and qualified medical people and authorities who are trying to put the brakes on a virus that appears to be moving with the speed alleged to wildfire.

If you choose to take unnecessary risks and contract the virus in spite of valid warnings, and you infect others, what is your moral responsibility to them?

Instead of thinking what WE want and what WE need, why not allow God to provide? Why not think about what God wants?

What if…

This disease is meant to call many to faith so that ultimately they will be saved?

Who is getting His way then?

My Bishop. “Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” (Lk 10:16)

And your bishop is himself a vicar of Christ for the local church…not just appointed by the Vicar of Christ. We definitely owe our bishop obedience.

No, the devil is not, if the devil were getting his way, mass would go ahead and spread this freely.

IMHO

Don’t you believe that disease is the devils work. A disease that spreads fear so we are afraid to touch each other! And afraid to gather together. We should be praying more not less.

I think people are praying more. I will listen to the Archbishop of Detroit.

Calm down. A flu like this was going to happen again eventually. We can prevent deaths by avoiding people as much as possible. That is a good thing - not a fear tactic.

This seems to me to be what happens when right and left ideologies go to the extremes. They each end up espousing essentially the same thing. On one side the theory of natural selection and on the other side blind faith. The common outcome is every man for himself and let nature take its course.

  1. A minority of us see that as part of the fall from grace; i.e. by the envy of the devil, death entered the world. The virus simply being the manner in which death has entered. We fight the devil at least as much in times of calm, for then we relax and are tempted to our old ways.
  2. However, any crisis that draws more to God - the caveat being the parable of the sower - is a good thing and not bad.
  3. Pray more? Lent? Hand-in hand.

Mass at my church is on for this weekend. I can’t wait to go. I can’t remember a time when I felt like I needed and wanted to go more than I do right now.
