Masses for relatives?

Please pardon a quick (and probably dumb…) question from a newbie Catholic!

I haven’t done this yet, but I’m getting ready to have Masses said for some of my deceased relatives. I understand that a stipend is customary.

Is it okay to write a check for the stipend or is cash preferred? If so, who would I make the check out to - the priest, or the church?

Can a Mass be said for a couple (Grandma and Grandpa together) or should I break them up into separate Masses?

One mass can be offered for both of your grandparents together.

As for the stipend, call the parish to find the local practice.

Our stipend is $5 per Mass. I’ve paid in cash and I’ve also written a check made out to the church.

I often have Masses offered on birthdays of relatives who are still living. I figure that if they have Masses offered while they’re still alive, they won’t need so many when they’re dead.

It is fairly easy to have a Mass said at our small parish - especially for a weekday Mass - I can usually get the day I request, so I don’t feel like I’m using Masses that someone else “needed” worse.
