What’s the all time biggest argument you have ever had with your spouse, and what was it over?

How did you resolve the issue?

My hubby and I have small fights everyday pretty much. We are one of those volatile couples, but if someone asked us on a scale of 1-10 how happy we are in our marriage; depending on the day, we’d both rate it an 8 or 9. It’s just our personalities; he’s Italian and I’m half French

SO…the biggest fight was when my then fiance didn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day. I felt unappreciated b/c we were cohabitating at the time and living with his family in our small apartment (they moved in with us). My SIL was very jealous and mean spirited towards me. My MIL also needed 24 hour care as she is a stroke survivor.

Leading up to Valentine’s, I had helped my fiance look after his mom every evening while my SIL went out with her husband. We also would look after her every other weekend when my SIL went away.

At the time, I was beginning to feel taken advantage of b/c my fiance never stood up for me when my SIL was cruel towards me (daily). If my fiance and I had an arguement, my SIL would automatically side with him and tell my fiance that I was in the wrong. Also, I was very accommodating to his mother and it was very difficult for me b/c she has a temper and on top of that, we had a communication problem due to the fact that I only speak very basic Italian.

It was a very stressful situation for me - I’m thankful it’s over!!! This situation lasted 2 years…a test from God

When that Valentine’s Day came, he gave me a box of candy and went about his business…I was very upset b/c we had the house to ourselves that evening. He went on the computer after I made dinner and treated it like any other night.

WELL!!! By 10 p.m., I just starting yelling at him…ooo…it was bad. He yelled back in defense and we didn’t talk for a couple of days after…the things we said…ooo it was bad!

We got married; I got pregnant; and the following Valentine’s Day, he took me out to dinner and bought me a diamond necklace. He learned from his mistake 😃

Since then, our arguements have been the usual stuff…but nothing like that night…ooo it was baaaaaddddd!

Well since then my SIL and I have also patched things up and my MIL no longer has a temper with me b/c we all have our own space now. Plus, when my MIL is in a bad mood, we bring the baby over and that puts a smile on her face 😉

When my wife and I have major issues, we usually resolve them like adults and then sometimes we have major screaming matches over stuff that means nothing. Luckily, we usually realize we are arguing over nothing (you didn’t specify unsalted butter, yes I did) and laugh it off. I guess we are just too tired to get into really big arguments anymore.

The biggest argument I remember was the day I proposed to her. I was so nervous that I couldn’t remember where we had reservation so we are driving up and down North Lamar in Austin and I’m getting nervous and she’s getting weirded out and so finally we start arguing about where to eat because I don’t want to tell her why I want to go to a specific restaurant. Finally we are screaming at each other and I finally yelled something to the effect of I can’t even find the damn restaurant to propose to you in. We argue for another few minutes and she suddenly stops and asks me if I just proposed to her. I huffed out that yes I was trying to if she would stop yelling. That started more yelling and we finally went east on Rundberg and went down to the Old San Francisco SteakHouse which on the I-35 feeder road and had dinner and laughed and cried and then laughed more when I realized that I had made the reservations at the Old Spaghetti Factory so we went there the next day.

February 4th will be 14 years.

do you know after 40 years I can’t really think of anything. most of our blow-ups are about dumb stuff

where do you want to eat?
I don’t know, what do you feel like?
I’ll go any where you want to go.
Well, you’re the one on a diet, pick a place you can eat, and I will be sure to find something good there.
You better decide soon because there is nothing between here and San Antonio

(all the while of course we have been passing every restaurant in town and are now back on the highway)
so of course we end up in the Mexican joint, my least favorite, least diet friendly food, and because I have indigestion I pout the rest of the trip

This sounds like our fights, too… always over the **dumbest **things. We’re on the same page about the important things, so trivial matters are the ones we feel we have to cling to, I guess. 🤷

I just ask D what do you not want, and make the decesion from there. I can’t hem and haw too long, because she likes decisiveness, pet peeve of hers.

I get upset the most when I can’t find the Pringles.

what really bugs me is when I ask him to buy treats and snacks I hate so I am not tempted to break my diet. Go ahead, get disgustingly colored and flavored chips and little debbie cakes, and kit-kats, I would rather eat salad. Then doesn’t he go and by kettle chips, hostess twinkies and snickers. He could at least take the effort to hide them where I can’t find them, he knows perfectly well I know all his current hiding places. sheeesh the inconsideration of some people

a) My husband tried to run me down with my car as I was holding our year-old daughter.

b) No argument. I divorced him.

wow my husband and i have been having the same argument for 8 years and that is my mom (surprise surprise). I got married when i was 17 years old and i was kind of imature and so was he at 25 we had some arguments in the beggining and unfortunately involved the in laws which was probably the biggest mistake of our lives now my mom and my husband can’t be in the same room for long and now that we have kids it is becoming so much more difficult to deal with it my mom is willing to forget all about the problems of the past but my husband cannot let it go and even tell me that my mom was born with a bad heart and cannot change i don’t know what to do:shrug:

We found out a few years back that at least 60% of our arguments were when one (or both) of us were hungry… This meant heaps of arguments whilst looking for places to eat when on vacation etc.

Now we have a rule. If we haven’t found that “perfect little place” withing 1/2 hr, then it’s kebab or McDonalds, and the dinner money gets spent on beer and cocktails. It’s been working well…!!!

I discovered something similar on our honeymoon, and it re-occurs on vacations if we’re not careful. My husband can go a long time without meals and he enjoys far more strenuous activity than I do. What he considers recreation/vacation resembles boot camp to me.

Add babies and children who are used to a regular feeding and sleep schedule and…well, see thread title. Our biggest argument happened on vacation with our first born. Hungry, tired mom caring for hungry, tired baby while dad didn’t get the recreation break he needed either. Not a good mix.
