Massive job unemployment

Interesting. So are students who are planning to go to college get this information before choosing a career? And why would the government lobby for more H1B and L1 visas because, knowing that, I would have one more reason to complain about the current Administration and one more question to ask prospective Presidential candidates?

I hope this info gets passed on to other forums with people who don’t know this and are under the impression that employment opportunities are out there.

Students are never told about this until they find out the hard way trying to get a job that does not exist.

The government doesn’t do the lobbying for more H1B or L1 visas. Big tech companies do.

Google, facebook, Apple, Microsoft. And many, many, others.

Microsoft, for example, has a Vancouver BC office, which serves only one purpose: They hire people using Canada’s liberal immigration laws, then they take them across the border into Redmond using L1 visas. Guess how many US Citizens they laid off lately? 18,000.

Some STEM shortage, eh?

Also ,this is not about this administration, these horrible programs have been going on for over two decades.

Meanwhile Hillary, Rubio and many other politicians running for president are asking that the H1B visa cap be lifted, meaning more unemployment for US techies.

If there was a STEM shortage, we would not have salaries stagnating for over 15 years (that’s right, since the dot com crash)

Strange. Very strange. I go to a few tech forums, and others, where the question is: Where can I get a job? I thought the internet would facilitate warning people about what’s going on, including those who have worked at certain companies but are being laid off. In my niche industry, I get a lot of inside information when layoffs occur. To put it mildly, this leads to bad feelings, and low expectations. As in, Why should I work for XYZ? They just laid off a large number of workers.

I think the government should be called on the carpet for this. Having good paying jobs is good for the economy. And I think a lot more warnings need to be posted as long as they are fair, accurate and from reliable sources. This sounds like a “we can get foreigners to work for less” situation.

And I think college/career counselors had better tell me, up front, right now, what my chances are for getting a job, not after the fact. That’s a “thanks for the money but we never promised you a job opportunity.” That’s plain wrong.

I’ll be waiting tables instead of working in my chosen field? The government needs to hear from people.
