Is the title of Master of the Sacred Palace still used in the Church today? Wikipedia (the article for which was taken pretty much directly from the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia) states that “Master of the Sacred Palace (Latin: Magister Sacri Palatii) is a Roman Curial office which has always been entrusted to a Friar Preacher of the Dominican Order and may be described as the pope’s theologian.”
This seems to correspond to the curent role of Fr. Wojciech Giertych, O.P., but I have never seen him referred to as “Master of the Sacred Palace”.
The position used to be a part of the Prefecture of the Holy Apostolic Palaces, which was itself simplified in 1967 to “Prefecture of the Apostolic Palaces”, and then further in 1970 to “Prefecture of the Papal Household”. Perhaps the Master of the Sacred Palace title was abolished and simplified to something like Theologian to the Papal Household?
If anyone knows anything about this, I would be much obliged. I would be especially grateful for some kind of citation or reference.
