Of course, not everyone who rationalizes masturbation will go on to rationalize abortion, etc. When I could not break my masturbation habit, I still opposed abortion and so on.I think this is a bit of a stretch. Protestant theologies that allow for masturbation or ABC, do in fact also condemn adultery, pre-marital sex and abortion.
I am not saying that the Protestants are right. I am saying that claiming that rationalizing masturbation leads to rationalization of abortion is quite a leap to make.
What I think he means is that it’s the same essential attitude towards Faith and Teaching that causes one to rationalize masturbation that causes one to rationalize any sort of sin. I like the phrase “Theology of the Believer” as a descriptor for this. Really, when we get down to it, we are committing Eve’s sin by rationalizing anything that God has told us simply not to do.
Potent ammunition for those who are looking to kick the masturbation habit, or any persistent sin, I’d think. I know I’m going to keep it in mind.
