A priest once told me, man is not as bad as he thinks he is, God put all these inclinations in us, we are weak, Thats why we confess, all of us are always going to commit some kind of sin or another in thought, word, or deed as long as we live, thats why Jesus was the supreme sacrifice for our sins, there is no perfect person, never will be, also A wonderful priest who I go to confession to tells me God is not out to get us, he knows man is weak & is going to do all kinds of sinful things. Human nature is rough & we are not all at the same level of spirituality, so all kinds of sins are going on, & remember God permits evil for the greater good that comes from it. I am not a scholar but I know a lot about the basics of our religion. God also knew there would be all kinds of sins against the ten commandments, including adultery, & also its hard to commit a mortal sin if all three things are not present, most mortal sins if they are that are committed on the spur of the moment , when full reflection is not there
No, man id not ad bad as he htinks he is. He is far worse. God cannot allow any (name removed by moderator)urity in his presence, and that is why we were given the gift of purgatory, the final purification before heaven. God is not some finite being that thinks “I don’t really have time to worry about sexual impurity, not when there is so much violence and hate in the world” He is an infinite being, deeply offended and saddened by all of it. If we could truly understand how holy God is, I think we would have less problems with avoiding sin at all costs.

Methodi,
I agree with the ccc’s teachings as to why masturbation is an intrinsic evil and a grave sin. But I also think that the Church teaches this because when one masturbates they usually are fantasizing about lustful and impure things. Thinking about these things darkens the will and the mind and the Holy Spirit cannot dwell here. We lose the sanctifying grace until we go to confession. It then can lead one into further sins like pornography, fornication, or adultery. I had a very bad habit of this before I came back to the Church and I still fall at times. I also know how it almost ruined my marriage.

I am considering going to professional therapy with this issue because it is rooted with porn addiction. I am really beat down by this and don’t feel Gods love for me even though I really want to stop the behavior. I get so sick of myself and don’t even want to go to Confession because I know I will do it again.

Signed, Broken Spirit Catholic who needs help
Hey buddy,
Don’t sweat it too much. If you feel bad that you know you will fall again, tell that to your priest. I can promise you that you will not go to confession and then be immaculate for the rest of your life. You are going to fall again, in this way or some other. What I think God wants from us is a good hearted fight against sin.
When you feel tempted, fight it as best as you can. CHANGE THE SUBJECT IN YOUR MIND. Or, immediately pray to God something like: God, I almost did it again. Please strengthen me. Please keep me pure. That’s what I do when my mind takes off toward improper thoughts. Takes a bit of practice and a LOT of discipline, but I have tended to get better over the years as to controlling my own thoughts.
As to the porn, get rid of it. It’s a temptation you don’t need.
It may help you to focus on the fact that everyone of God’s children that you see in porn have jumped on the express lane to eternal damnation if they don’t change. Don’t forget those are real people with real lives who may well be on their way to hell. It may also help to realize that those who watch porn are supporting the industry and it’s effect on the actors.
And thinks about this: when you do fight off that temptation, just think how pleasing that must be to God! I hope this is not cheesy, but I would love to picture God jumping up and down, high fiving the angels and saints because teadough fought it off today. Now, fight it off again tomorrow and the next day. If you stumble, get up and try again. It will get easier if you work at it.
And hey, good luck and work hard!

why do we have wet dreams if we don’t masturbate then? we still end up spilling and wasting semen in the end…

It has nothing to do with the sin of masturbation…

Catechism of the Catholic Church said:
2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

See? It has nothing to do with the “spilling and wasting of seed.”

Nocturnal emissions are a natural cleansing process of the body. It’s a normal biological function.
