Masturbation a mortal sin?

Is masturbation a mortal sin?
I don’t “lust” I just kind do it. I don’t feel much guilt right after but later I do. I am a teen and hormones are OUT OF CONTROL I feel like it is a better alternative than real sex. Is it?
