Well there are animals that masturbate as well… like monkeys and such. So I would say it arises from nature in a way. Also many young children (even babies) masturbate… they don’t even know what they are doing, but it just seems to occur. Now I am NOT commenting on the morality on it, but I do think it is pretty “normal”.
You are correct. Fetuses masturbate too. And dolphins masturbate each other. 🤷

I am currently struggling with masturbation. I am hoping that when school starts and I continue to pray the rosary, I will stop. 😃

I too have struggled with masturbation. For many years I thought nothing of it and did it on a daily basis, and also went to mass every sunday. My justification was, well if the bible doesn’t say anything about it then why should the catholic church ban it? I started contemplating what spending eterntity (which is never ending which scares me) in hell would be like which made me change my ways. After thinking about hell i decided to change my ways so that i wouldnt have to even worrry about that anymore and could devote myself to making it to heaven. I went to confession and had been clean for three weeks until i had a slip up 4 days ago. I went to confession right after and have almost made it another week clean. I am also hoping that once school starts on monday I will have less free time which will mean less opportunity to get in trouble.

Your poll didn’t have an option for - used to have an addiction, but now have stopped for years.

I started when I was 4 and developed an addiction long before I knew it was a sin. It was then about 13 more years of struggling to stop before I could. It’s now been 5+ years since I have done it (praise be to God), but it still sometimes becomes a struggle, especially during hormonal times.

What helps me is dwelling on good things and being around people. Really, training my mind to think positively has helped. The times I struggle most are when I am angry, feeling lonely or really depressed.

So, it is possible to stop completely with an addiction, with the grace of God. But, not without a struggle that will more than likely be ongoing.
