The Church doesn’t give masturbation much weight as a sin
This is not true. Yes, masturbation is one of sins most commonly confessed by men, but it’s not true that it doesn’t have much weight.

The reason it’s not discussed much is because masturbation is one of those sins that kids don’t try until they have heard about it. A 5 year old hearing about masturbation from his priest is not going to be a good thing.

Does the church really need to opine on and micromanage married people’s private sexual lives to this extent?
The church doesn’t micromanage our sex lives. But it does teach that some sexual practices are unchaste. Masturbation is one of them.

Our Lady of Fatima stated that more people are in hell due to sins of the flesh, than any other sin. So all should pay heed.

God bless!

There are cases where masturbation is not a mortal sin, but those involve impaired consent or innocent ignorance. The fact that you know the law on this matter and have full control of your faculties means you would be guilty of mortal sin if you masturbated.

Speaking from personal experience, it is entirely possible to learn to masturbate on your own, without any clue what you’re doing. In fact, sexual thoughts are wholly unnecessary in order to achieve climax. That said, innocent ignorance does excuse children.

Try reading what I posted.

The Church does not agree with me on this specific case the OP presented.

Our Lady of Fatima never said this to the visionaries in the apparitions.

All I said was that it was always grave matter, which is true, and a determination that the Church has a right to make. The other two conditions for mortal sin are between him, his confessor, and God.

Again, easy to say when you’re not in that situation and that includes old A-sexual oldmen who chose celibacy as their way of life.

This came from Lucia, long after the apparitions which the Church approved.

In the interrogations of the three visionarionaries, they never mentioned that the Blessed Mother told them that many souls go to hell because of sins of the flesh

Lucia suffered from scrupulosity and said she regretted not starting these things in her interrogation early on.

Well, it’s easy for me say because I’m in a similar situation. My wife has developed a phobia of sex. So I can literally count how many times since my son was born.

When a fall to temptation to engage in unchaste acts, I go to confession ASAP. I never attempt to lie to myself by saying I didn’t commit a sin. I’m simply go to Confession as pray for more strength for next time.

It’s a cross that I struggle with, but I will not give up, nor best myself up. I will simply do my best to be remain chaste and when I fail, ask for forgiveness thought the Sacrament of Confession.

God Bless

Yeah, but I think Lucia said it was her cousin’s insight.

You two should see a therapist, because this is not healthy.

God made sex so we could reproduce. God didn’t make it for pleasure. God says masturbation is a mortal sin, therefore in my opinion (and I’m sure many other’s,) masturbation is always a mortal sin.
