I used to feel very guilty about masturbation. It used to deeply tear me up inside, so much so that when I’d go and do it after abstaining for a few days or weeks, I’d be miserable. I felt like I’d turned away from God, and would run to confession at the earliest opportunity.
This whole process of abstaining, and struggling, and falling felt to me like a vicious cycle of guilt and pain.
All this negativity was simply numbing to my soul. So I have since changed my attitude. While currently, I don’t really believe the whole concept of “sin”, I still recognize that masturbation may be worthwhile to avoid.
masturbation, especially if done frequently, has a strong negative effect on my sex drive, and on my motivation to meet women. Masturbation also takes a lot of energy out of me, and while it may be useful when falling to sleep, The effect seems to last for me up to 48 hours after doing it last. Masturbation can make you lazy, and tired, and boring because you don’t seek as much connection with other people, because you are focused too much on yourself.
