Masturbation, I seriously cannot win against it

I recently went through an anxiety disorder and got professional help through a cognative behaviour therapist, as well as a priest - the same one my friends had. The good news is that the anxiety can be overcome. Get out of the dark corner and into the light. Confession will remove the anxiety. It did for me and for my friends. Read Uzziah’s message.

Masturbation comes out of stress. Treating stress and anxiety treats the whole person. Sexual activity is part of it.
 
yea I must have an anxiety disorder causing masturbation. Anytime I am around people my jaw and face muscles tense up. I also think I have social anxiety disorder.

I setup an appointment with a psychiatrist, maybe I need paxil or something…anyone know what pills are for anxiety disorders?

Try to join a youth ministry/singles ministry or join a parish-based community where you can be busy and be of service for the Lord. In this way, you can share your struggles with some immediate people (not just people from the internet). People around you can help you and be accountable for you.

I work in a place where I’m always tempted since I am in the movie industry. But everytime I’m tempted, I always pray. With God’s grace and with the help of my friends, I continue to overcome these temptations. Remember that growing spiritually means we have to be tempted. We always have to make THE choice to renounce sin, hence repentance (repentance came from the Greek word metanoia, which is a change of mind).

Well I speak directly to Jesus and Jesus shows me what he wants me to do.

onlybygrace if you truly believe in Jesus then ask him if that is the job he wants you to be doing.

No one ever told me that I can speak directly to Jesus and that he would answer…I had to learn this for myself.

I asked Jesus like you are talking to an invisible person…“Jesus what is it you wish for me to do” …then Jesus shows me Ambulette vans and I know this is what he wants me to do.

Each time I talk to Jesus he proves to me that he is real and alive, the biggest problem with most people is they never ever speak directly to Jesus on everything. They go to church and go to friends and priests and they think that they are talking with God that way.

Sounds supernatural…well it is
So next time you are sitting around, talk directly to Jesus say Lord do you want me to be working in the movie industry and he will show you.

You cannot be a just man if you are currently in a state of mortal sin. Bookcat is correct here.

I struggled with this during the time that I was deciding whether or not to become Catholic. Before I looked into Catholicism and found out how wrong I was about this being a normal, pefectly morally neutral act, it wasn’t an issue.

So the whole time I was going through RCIA I struggled.

What I did was carried a rosary with me all the time as a reminder and if an urge occured I’d grip the crucifix and say a Hail Mary. It worked for me. 👍 I even wore the rosary to bed so that I wasn’t tempted or was reminded not to do it.
 
God put an obstacle in the way with this sin of masturbation.

I mean I do not drink, smoke, do drugs, yet I have this dumb sin to worry about…

I couldn’t place so much blame on a person for this sin being that with the other sins you have to make some effort and go to the store and buy cigarettes or hit up a bar. Masturbation is like make sure to never touch your nose.

Porn I guess you can just cancel your internet service. But masturbation is like God really wants to make sure your not going to make it to heaven.

I mean I guess a smoker who quits would eventually get into the sin of masturbation idk…

My brother even told me he finds its seriously impossible to quit and he is not even religious. He said that you can go for 10 days but then a strong lustful thought that feels so real plus being a single man does not help, your more than surely going to fall.

A cousin of mine told me the only way to stop is to cut it off and generally any sane guy would not go that far.

I question to myself does each person have a different sin that rules their life?
like do you have a person who is addicted to stealing or addicted to greed?
Mine of course is lust and masturbation

I really think porn and masturbation top it for all sins, it being the hardest to quit.

He’s a recent convert who struggled with porn addiction (of course masturbation goes along with that). He now does speaking to men about these sins and how to conquer them. I think you will find hope in what he says. Porn does change your brain but you can heal it by staying away. And the desire to masturbate lessens as well, over time, if you exercise a lot, do hard physical work, engage your mind in other things, and pray. Especially the rosary.

There are men who struggle with this problem who are happily married and perfectly pleased with their marital relations. It’s not really about the frequency or quality of real sex, this is normally a symptom of some other issue.

I disagree. God does not put such an obstacle in your path. God gave us freedom to choose. It’s up to you what to do with your freedom. There are good choices, and not good choices.

If you think you are addicted to the porn, a good choice is to make the decision to seek professional help. You’ve made an appointment. That’s the first step of many.

If you suspect you have social anxiety, I want you to know that the good news is that this and any other anxieties can be overcome! You have to deal with this now to get your life back on track. It is very important that you know this. Yes, there is effective medication available. I cannot give medical advice, as I am not a doctor. So I can only say that I did take medication for my anxiety (which was not social anxiety). I received a non-addictive type of medication and it helped me. My doctor also gave me the option to go for cognative behavioural therapy, which I took. My medication was only short term, and I was fine with that, and it did help. Thankfully I only had to take very little of it. But I also went to my local priest to discuss some of my issues, and went to confession.

I just want to clarify here that my anxiety was not related to masturbation - it was a completely different issue (and not related to any sin). I dealt with my anxiety right from the start so that it would not get worse. It took me about a year to recover.

You can overcome your anxiety, and yes, you can get your life back on track. That’s great news, don’t you think?

From your earlier postings I see that you are not Catholic. No problem. In encourage you to grow in your faith in Jesus, and to build a relationship with him. Yes, you can pray directly to Jesus. I do too. I also ask for the intercession of the saints, like Mary, and ask them to pray for me as well. Hey, when you need help, don’t be afraid to ask!

On EWTN I heard recently how some non-Catholics actually go to confession. The priests had no problem with that. You can still go to any Catholic parish and talk to the priest directly and privately, and ask if you could go for confession. What would they do? Say no?
