Masturbation in Marriage

What happened from Vatican II, however, is that the Church’s description of marriage changed from considering marriage as an exchange of rights to an exchange of persons.
How wonderful! This is a beautiful example of how doctrine can be developed, but not changed in a way that negates the former descriptions. When the Church clarifies and develops Her teachings, She does so in a way that elevates those teachings and makes them more beautiful and more inspiring. I love that about the Catholic faith.

I come back from a month ban and get some fpt posts hot off the press. Life is good.

The donation and the reception go together, otherwise there is a problematic.

In the real life, the articulation of all that is not so easy. It is a hard work, in love, in the tenderness, in the natural goodness and in the catholic charity. The Conjugal Charity is an adventure and is a long way. Each one is a pilgrim on the way of the Conjugal Charity.

  • Deposition of semen in the vagina is a necessary condition for the conjugal act to retain its unitive significance. Each and every conjugal act must embody the intention of complete “self-donation,” otherwise one is withholding from one’s partner something natural to the act, which deprives the conjugal act of the unitive significance, making it morally illicit.
Can you advise the source for this statement - I have never seen a Papal document that has explained the unitive significance so explicitly.

The marital act is a phenomenon in three moments: before the complete union of bodies, during the complete union of bodies, and after the complete union of bodies. The marital act is the fact of making one flesh, in the human manner with the sexual coopeation, what means a mutual and reciprocal donation of bodies, and a mutual and reciprocal donation of nudities. The marital act is, for each member of couple: a moral obligation of conjugal love, a moral duty of conjugal love, a moral right of conjugal love, a conjugal debt of conjugal love, and it is also a prayer, a liturgy, a carnal language of conjugal love, an act of physical love, an act of physical tenderness, an act of conjugal love. It is existing in order to express the conjugal love or in order to improve the bonding of conjugal love or in order to avoid the bad effect of concupiscence (remedy to the concupiscence) or in order to be the mean of the human procreation, or in order to have the conjugal physical fun (the cumulative intentions are morally okay, of course). The conjugal sexual love is wanted by God, only in the marriage between wife and husband. The carnal union of spouses, with all the human corollaries, are morally permissible, in the marriage : the marital sexual charity is the key.

In the context of the marital act :
• The wife has to give her total feminity to her husband and the husband has to receive the total feminity of his wife in materiality and in intentionality, in link with the natural moral order of the marital act ; the wife has to accept her own nature (the material moral order of the female sexuality and the intentional moral order of the sexual feminity, and the material moral order of the male sexuality and the intentional moral order of the sexual masculinity) ;
• The husband has to give his total masculinity to his wife and the wife has to receive the total masculinity of her husband in materiality and in intentionality, in link with the natural moral order of the marital act; the husband has to accept his own nature (the material moral order of the male sexuality and the intentional moral order of the sexual masculinity, and the material moral order of the female sexuality and the intentional moral order of the sexual feminity);
• Thus, woman has to be a conjugal active lover on her husband and the man has to be a conjugal active lover on his wife ; and also each one has to be a passive conjugal lover : to give its own body and to receive the body of the other (both of them are an active agent and a passive agent, with the sexual cooperation in the human fashion) ;
• The Man has to accept the mechanism of his own conjugal sexuality and the woman has to accept the mechanism of her own conjugal sexuality during the three moments of the marital act ;
• Each member of couple has to avoid the Manichaeism, the Catharism, the Jansenism, the neo-Jansenism, the Puritanism, the neo-Puritanism, the Victorianism, the neo-Victorianism, the quietism, the fideism, the theoretical providentialism, the quiverfull movements, the absolute procreationsim, the absolute physiologism, the primary anti-personalism, the primary anti-phenomenologism, the radical feminism, the sexism from female, the misandry, the negationism of alterity and of the complementarity of male and female coming from women, the negationism of alterity and of the complementarity of male and female coming from men, the negationism of the sexuation coming from women, the negationism of the sexuation coming from men, the relativism of the sexuation coming from women, the relativism of the sexuation coming from men, the radical masculinism, the sexism from males, the misogyny, the philosophical absurdism of the conjugal sexual morality, the theological absurdism of the conjugal sexual morality, the moralism, the rigorism, the externalism, the judgmentalism, the pharisaism, the scrupulism about conjugal sexuality. All those heresies and all these ideologies are morally wrong, each member of couple has the moral obligation to battle against each one of them.

This is my humble understanding of the global logic of the catholic doctrine concerning the marital act. It is a summary with my own words for helping you to have conscience that the catholicism is in favor of the link between the soul with his corollaries and the body with his corollaries, both of them, concerning the marital act.

    And
    The married female, who is the wife, has to understand the normal sexuality of her male: wife is the teacher of the sexuality of her husband, she is also the professor of the sexuality of her husband, and then she is the doctress and the master of love of the sexuality of her husband. A catholic wife should have a huge consideration for her male. In her mind, man would be the most beautiful creature of the creation, he would be on the top of the natural creation wanted by God. He is her lover, her husband and her potential father of her children. For a catholic woman, he is her natural complementarity and her husband who is so divine, as he is coming from the creation of God. The bashing of man / husband coming from the wife is a social scandal and a moral scandal. The sexual violences on husband done by wife are wrong, are immoral and are very sinful. The conjugal rape done on him by wife is sinful and very immoral.

Consummation is unitive: it is the act through which a couple become one flesh.
  1. Consummation:
By the jurisprudence prior to 13 May 1977, marital consummation required of the man: erection, penetration. and ejaculation of semen into the vagina, elaborated in the testicles. The Decree of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued on 13 May 1977 and approved by Pope Paul VI clarified that it does not need to be from the testicles. Acta Aposiolicae Sedis, LXIX, 7 (31 July 1977). p. 426.The Congregation issued the decree in the form of two questions and two answers:
  1. Whether impotence, which renders matrimony invalid, consists in the incapacity, antecedent and perpetual, whether absolute or relative, of performing conjugal copula.
Answer: Affirmative.
  1. In view of the above affirmative, whether ejaculation of semen that has been elaborated in the testicles is necessarily required for conjugal copula.
Answer: Negative.

2) Unitive:Can. 1061 §1 A valid marriage between baptised persons is said to be merely ratified, if it is not consummated; ratified and consummated, if the spouses have in a human manner engaged together in a conjugal act in itself apt for the generation of offspring. To this act marriage is by its nature ordered and by it the spouses become one flesh.

And:
  1. The Church has always taught the intrinsic evil of contraception, that is, of every marital act intentionally rendered unfruitful. This teaching is to be held as definitive and irreformable. Contraception is gravely opposed to marital chastity; it is contrary to the good of the transmission of life (the procreative aspect of matrimony), and to the reciprocal self-giving of the spouses (the unitive aspect of matrimony); it harms true love and denies the sovereign role of God in the transmission of human life. 33
(33) The Encyclical Humanae Vitae declares as illicit “every action which, either in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible”. And it adds: “To justify conjugal acts made intentionally infecund, one cannot invoke as valid reasons the lesser evil, or the fact that such acts would constitute a whole together with the fecund acts already performed or to follow later, and hence would share in one and the same moral goodness. In truth, if it is sometimes licit to tolerate a lesser evil in order to avoid a greater evil or to promote a greater good, it is not licit, even for the gravest reasons, to do evil so that good may follow therefrom, that is, to make into the object of a positive act of the will something which is intrinsically disorder, and hence unworthy of the human person, even when the intention is to safeguard or promote individual, family or social well-being. Consequently it is an error to think that a conjugal act which is deliberately made infecund and so is intrinsically dishonest could be made honest and right by the ensemble of a fecund conjugal life” (Paul VI, Enc. Humanae Vitae, July 25, 1968, n. 14).

Unfortunately this Magisterial source above appears far less explicit than the much more precise but non-Magisterial view you quoted below.

I was hoping for something more than just the old "the reciprocal self-giving of the spouses (the unitive aspect of matrimony) " which is rather vague.

I think you are mistaken if you are suggesting that the act defined by “consummation” and “the unitive aspect of matrimony” are exactly the same and vice versa.

The female impotence? The immaterial aspects and the material aspects of the female impotence? The impossibility of consuming the marriage coming from the female: the impossibility of making one flesh, in the human fashion, with sexual cooperation, coming from the female? The relative impotence of woman? The absolute impotence of woman?

The male impotence? The immaterial aspects and the material aspects of the male impotence? The impossibility of consuming the marriage: the impossibility of making one flesh, in the human fashion, with sexual cooperation, coming from the male? The relative impotence of man? The absolute impotence of man?

====) The wrong theologies have to be stopped. A big work of intellectual purification should be done. The heresies and the ideologies about the body and Co have to put in the trash. The stupidity, the absurdity, the immaturity, the scrupulosity, the craziness, the false prudishness, the false morality… are dangerous.

One of ends of marriage and of the marital act is the fact avoiding the wrong effects of the concupiscence, thus each member of couple is for the other* a conjugal nurse, a conjugal doctor, a medical lover and a medicinal beloved.* The marital debt is helpful and useful for keeping the chastity. Each one must offer his or her body to the other, and to sacrifice, in the reason and the moderation, (rules of reason), in favor of the other in the respect of the natural moral order of the marriage and of the marital act. Yes, the practice of the marital act can be a moral treatment, a spiritual treatment and a physical treatment for each member of couple.

The marriage is a voluntary act of love, what means the will to love the other for all the life by the mechanism of the volition. This love is composed, materially speaking, by the body. *Thus, if you disagree with the fact of having to touch the other, sexually speaking, the marriage is not for you, and if you disagree with the fact of having to be touched by the other, sexually speaking, the marriage is not for you. *The marital act and Co is one of hard cores of marriage because the marriage is a sexed and sexual contract, a sexed and sexual institution, a sexed and sexual covenant and a sexed and sexual consortium: a sexed and sexual donation, and a sexed and sexual reception, for all the life and for all the time, in the respect of the natural moral order of the marriage and of the marital act.

Each spouse has to try to satisfy the legitimate sexual hopes, the legitimate sexual needs, the legitimate sexual desires and the legitimate sexual rights of the other, in the respect of the natural moral order of the marriage and of the marital act. The married male, who is the husband, has to understand the normal sexuality of his female: husband is the teacher of the sexuality of his wife, he is also the professor of the sexuality of his wife, and then he is the doctor and love’s master of the sexuality of his wife. The married female, who is the wife has to understand the normal sexuality of her male: wife is the teacher of the sexuality of her husband, she is also the professor of the sexuality of her husband, and then she is the doctress and the master of love of the sexuality of her husband.

The rules of reason, the reasonability, the fair rationality, the objectivity, the justice, the natural goodness, the catholic charity, the natural love, the supernatural love, the moderation, the balance, the efforts and the sacrifices,** the principle of practice of the marital act and the exception of un-practice of the marital act** are the rules of marriage.

One of ends of marriage and of the marital act is the fact avoiding the wrong effects of the concupiscence, …
There is an interesting excerpt from your source writer from post #37:A particular point of interest for the present study is the absence, in the documents of the Second Vatican Council and in subsequent magisterial teaching, of any direct or indirect mention of the former remedium concupiscentiae or “remedy of concupiscence.”[15] That this omission was deliberate cannot be doubted. Moreover, though the other secondary end, the mutuum adiutorium, fits simply enough within the new concept of the bonum coniugum, [16] this is not so of the remedium concupiscentiae. Rather than suggest (as some have done) an implicit presence of the remedium concupiscentiae within the new scheme of the ends of marriage - and thus try to show a certain continuity of ecclesial thinking - I prefer to submit that, despite the long presence it has enjoyed in much of ecclesial writing and its acceptance over fifty years in the 1917 Code, the concept of the remedium concupiscentiae
INDENT lacks theological and anthro-pological substance (and, contrary to generalized opinion, has little if any backing in the thought of St. Augustine or St. Thomas) and

(b) its currency, over centuries, has accompanied (and possibly explains in large part) the failure of moralists to develop a theological and ascetical consideration of marriage as a way of sanctification.

Consummation is unitive but not all of what unites. But that conjugal act is in the context of the matrimonial covenant and it makes the matrimony indissoluble.

Satisfaction in the Marital Conjugal Relationship
cultureoflife.org/satisfaction-marital-conjugal-relationship

At least two harms can come to a wife because of a husband’s sexual egoism. First, she might grow sexually unresponsive and lose the ability to orgasm (grow “frigid”). Second, she might become tempted to masturbate or seek sexual satisfaction with someone other than her husband. John Paul II (Wojtyla) says that “if a woman does not obtain natural gratification from the sexual act there is a danger that her experience of it will be qualitatively inferior, will not involve her fully as a person” (Love and Responsibility, 273). A husband who sexually relates to his wife merely as means to his own gratification dehumanizes her. This is not to say that spouses should not have a lively regard to provide for each other in and through their sexual life a remedium concupiscentiae (a noble outlet for the expression of sexual desire). To deny this would be foolish. But this remedium should be offered by a husband and wife to each other in the context of the spousal gift of self. It should never be callously presumed upon, selfishly insisted upon and certainly never demanded with outright hostility.

So you will notice that St. Pope Wojtyla (John Paul II) states in Love and Responsibility:
“both procreation and remedium concupiscentiae as purposes of marriage must result from love as a virtue”. (LR 68)

“This virtue is produced in the will and has at its disposal the resources of the will’s spiritual potential: in other words, it is an authentic commitment of the free will of one person (the subject), resulting from the truth about another person (the object).” (*LR *123)

Love is the source of all things. Love is also the ends of all things. Only love is important and essential.

The marital act for expressing the conjugal love;
The marital act for bonding of the conjugal love;
The marital act for making a baby, the opening to the life;
The marital act for staying chaste within the marriage (for avoiding the personal sexual sins, for keeping her husband or his wife in the conjugal fidelity), the meritorious act of the marital act: the marital act for avoiding the wrong effects of the concupiscence;
The marital act for giving his or her own body to the other and for receiving the body of the other and thus for expressing, a new time, the vows of marriage ;

The practice of the marital act has to be done in the love and in the tenderness, and in the alterity and the complementarity with the masculinity (the manhood, the virility) and with the femininity (the womanhood);

The supranatural virtue of Charity has to be the cause, the reason, the motivation, the goal, the intention, the purpose, the objective and the end. Only, the Love and the Catholic Charity are totally fair and holy.
**
Conclusion: “both procreation and remedium concupiscentiae as purposes of marriage must result from love as a virtue”.**
