Hello,

Sorry to bring up yet another masturbation thread…but I was thinking last night about the following: What if you’re in a clinic and you need to get your sperm count tested? Or a myriad of other health reasons? And you need to wack off to complete the tests? Is this sinful? Mortally so?
 
Whacking off is an intrinsically evil act and as such is never justified no matter what the circumstances.
 
There are Church-approved means of doing this test that don’t involve masturbation. They have been mentioned in other threads.
 
Oh. I had never heard of anything. Could you tell me where to find info on these methods…or just fill me in?

Intercourse with your wife using a special condom with small holes to retain most, but not all of the emission.

If you are unmarried, there is no medical need to test your sperm count.

As I understand it, it is morally licit to have sex using perforated condoms, in order to obtain a semen specimen for tests. This act would not be intrinsically evil because the marital act would still (a) be open to life, and (b) the use of the perforated condom would not be a means of limiting the chances of conception - rather by allowing medical tests it would hopefully improve the chances of natural conception.

Because masturbation is intrinsically evil, it can never be justified by any ends. Catholic moral theology holds that the ends cannot be used to justify an otherwise evil means.
 
If a man is not married or (married with certain conditions) and needs certain tests there are other ways to extract the seminal fluid as well. There has been some progress made in non mastubatory semen samples in recent years for various reasons.They are not widely used are more expensive and may need to be asked for or sought out.
 
The CCC states that deliberate stimulation of the reproductive organs to derive pleasure is sinful.

Deliberate stimulation of the reproductive organs for medical reasons is not addressed.
