Even though by nature humans have imperfections, people should not compromise on their problem sins and point to those imperfections as an excuse for failing to overcome them.

In whatever you do, you should strive for perfection even if that level cannot be attained, because you will end up in a better position and be more perfect than you would have if you had not aimed high. This rings true for faith as well.

I would agree that in most cases, it is mortal. All I’m saying is legitimate cases of compulsive/addictive behaviors the culpability is reduced. I am not trying to downplay the seriousnrss of this at all. I see masturbation as a form of fornication–a slefish expression of self satisfaction, sex without love. Even some who claim it to be an addiction are probably as you say just making excuses. I am simply saying that there are some cases where it truly is a literal addiction, and some form of counseling should be sought. I will say in almost all cases, I believe masturbation to be a mortal sin.
the thing is… as we all know… any sin will cause guilt and a not so good feeling about oneself… & a rupture of some sort in one’s relationship with God and others…

so masturbation is not good for a person even if, technically, it isn’t a mortal sin…

Even venial sins are harmful… not only to the perpetrator but to all those in his/her world… as sin affects the entire body of Christ…

i had more grace in my life when i was going to confession every week for venial sins… can’t do that now… but anyway… one shouldn’t even take venial sins too lightly… that passage about “storing up wrath for the day of wrath” does not only apply to mortal sins… even venial ones have to be expiated, here and/or in Purg…

i’ve been celibate for a long time… and have noticed that when I re-channel my desires/inclinations into… wel… into my … other aspects of my self (emotions, etc…) when i give this kind of thing to God … it actually enhances my… .well, that part of me… Celibacy/chastity makes me realize all the more the special gift that sexuality is meant to be (as God created it, not as man so often [especially these days ] distorts & perverts it)… .

I am at a loss for the right words to convey waht exactly i mean by this & am sorta pressed for time so can’t seem to think…

but maybe you all get the gist of waht i am sayig anyway (?)… especially those who have also been celibate a long time… walking with Jesus (&/or trying to… :D)

I think you are trying to argue where there is no argument. I do agree all sin must be dealt with, even venial ones. I am simply adressing the fact that just because a sin is grave matter does not automatically make it mortal.

No. We do not need sexual release. I know of no one who has died for lack of sex.
Yes we absolutely do need sexual release, If married people can have sexual release in so many forms, then why not the single person who through no fault of his or her own cant find a husband or wife, why should they not have sex whether its masturbation etc. Man is a sexual being, there aren`t many who can contain themselves, & they are not. To go a lifetime fighting something that is natural is not natural

You know, what amazes me is that being Catholic for 50 years, you cannot get the same standardized answer from priests in the confessional on masturbation. The older priests say you’re body will start rotting, the newer generation say it isn’t a sin, the middle of the road aged priests say there are worse sins, … c’mon people, can you priests get it straight once and for all ? But they are allowed to molest children, get a spank on the wrist, and get passed off to another parish, and I’m supposed to worry that I beat off? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? There is NOTHING mentioned in the Bible on masturbation. There is nothing in the Bible saying priests can’t marry, ect… worry what’s in the Bible, and not all these man made rules, laws, and b.s. Why is the Catholic religion worried about it, all other Christians I know in other Denominations are taught it isn’t a sin. And don’t give me that **** the Catholics are the only ones that do Christianity right, lead by a scandalous, murderous history Vatican. So what, all the other Christian Denominations go to hell because they are allowed to masturbate, again, you gotta be kidding me.

Think about this instead. Why don’t you ponder why the Christian’s celebrate Christmas and Easter with pagan rituals(I don’t have time or space to tell you, go find out like I did). Easter eggs and rabbits, white and red mistletoe representing fertility god worshipping, and the goddess Isis lmao Jesus wasn’t born Dec 25, but the Greek god son of someone was (I’m sorry, I’m bad with names, and don’t have time to look it up). What a joke. Oh, and one more thing, THE JEWS DIDN’T KILL JESUS, THE ROMANS DID, so get off their case, and see all the falsehoods the Vatican teaches us, and stick to the teaching of Jesus, there aren’t that many 1. Love God above all things 2. Love your fellow man, as you would yourself. Masturbation, priest celibacy as examples, are not in there, along with all the other MAN MADE (VATICAN) LAWS, that even the Apostles didn’t teach, again, as an example, most of them were married for crying out load, but it’s voodoo for a priest hahahahahaha get reaaaaaaaal.

Oh, and one more thing in my humble, before all you pompous Catholic’s opinion and vast deep knowledge far surpassing us simple sinful Catholics, the next time you want to hold up a sign with John 3:16 consider holding up a sign referring people to 1 John 3:16, that’s more appropriate, Jesus did His job, Christians, and Catholics don’t do theirs (that 1 John 3:16 directs, that’s what we will be judged on more, not John 3:16).

So us Catholics are supposed to be the"best" Religion, then quit worrying about such a simple masturbation issue which priests can’t even uniformly teach as being right or wrong, but worry about 1 John 3:16. If you can abide by 1 John 3:16, God isn’t gonna give a flying you know what about it , get real. Quit acting like a middle age pompous Vatican, and act like the very very first Christians, spreading the Good News, THAT was their mission, make it yours, not proclaiming we are the best religion and what we say is the correct interpretation of Jesus, the Vatican isn’t that good to be that correct, they just have the most power to shove it down peoples throats, as they did when they instituted a Church. Christians weren’t Christians until the 300’s, before that they were Jews who believed that Jesus was the Son of God, and then Gentiles joined thereafter. The Romans made it Christianity in name and rules, that doesn’t make it right, it’s just who had the most power to make their point the right one AND THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE, not, masturbation is a sin. You can trust the Vatican, about as much as you can trust the government, if you think different, you’re a fool, for only God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Holy Word of God can be trusted that much … and none of them address or worry about masturbation … SO GET OVER IT ! No wonder people are turned off by God and Church with all this useless ****.

Jesus is King of Kings, Lord of Lords
Allah Akbar to my Middle Eastern Christians brothers

Priests do not molest children more than any other profession. There is a higher rate of molestation from family members than from priests. There is a higher rate among school teachers than priests. And besides this is off topic. If you are going to add something meaningful to the discussion then by all means do so.

well, sometimes i go off on a tangent because i think some non-Catholic or uninformed Catholic may be reading…

also, i wish i could change the wording of my post (that u responded to)… 'cause it sounds like there’s a possibility masturb is not a mortal sin… whne, as you say, most of the time it is… but anyway… hopefully any confused person will read other posts and it won’t be a problem…

(wouldn’t want to lead anyone astray… …)

cases of child molestation are also higher in the non-Catholic churches…

(you just don’t hear about it as much because the media despises the Catholic Church and is always quick to jump on any scandal it can)…

Methodi, I suggest you study Theology of the Body…put God’s will before your own gratification.

Uh If your an adult and even Catholics grow up and get over their guilt…sex is a gift from God …have fun dont’t hurt anyone…even yourself…and move onto real problems…go help a poor person or for giggles volunteer your time to help the sick.and suffering .I dunno but if your an adult and you still worry about what God is gonna say about your sex life in the hereafter…all I can say is…See a shrink !

The only sin is to not show love when you have the opputunity …end of story ! ]

That is NOT what the Catechism says

Maybe these catechisms are all wrong
Please tell my you are joking! If not, then you aren’t really Catholic. When you say the Creed, skip over the part thet says “I believe in one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church” because you don’t. You think that you can make up your own standadrd of what is right an what is wrong. All hail Pope Methodi! That is what you have done. You have declared yourself pope, so you can remake the Church how you want it. The Catholic Church is not a cafeteria. You either have to accept all of it, or none of it. Whatever happened to the idea of taking up your cross to follow Jesus? Faith isn’t easy. No one ever said it would be. But we must, we must defer to the Church when we find a disagreement between the infallible Majesterium and our own small minds.

Oh I am catholic alright, baptised, leaves an imprimatur

What can you say about the topic title?, thisSite, contains some thoughts, or information (if you may), in accordance to masturbation being a gift to control ourselves, the site says that it is okay to masturbate AS LONG AS “WE DO NOT THINK ABOUT LUSTFUL THINGS”, the site also say to pray before we indulge ourselves,

in my opinion: I see the point, that the bible NEVER explicitly mentioned the word: “Masturbation”, and that masturbation is a SIGN that a man/woman CANNOT control himself, and that he/she SHOULD marry, and that the bible says that: if a we look at someone with lust in our hearts then we are already sinning.

I also can see the point that: “IF WE CAN MASTURBATE WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT EROTIC THOUGHTS, THEN MASTURBATION IN ITSELF IS A ““gift”” THAT GOD GAVE US SO THAT WE WILL NOT BURN IN PASSION/LUST”,

here’s another catch,

“CATHOLIC” is a word NEVER mentioned in the Bible, but it is still considered as the most comprehensive religion and also the most complete religion in the world, so if such a word can be so successful in the Holy Spirit, can MASTURBATION, (also a word NEVER mentioned in the Bible) be NOT A SIN IN ITSELF, BUT RATHER A WAY TO KEEP OUR PASSIONS FROM CONTROLLING US?.

👍

GOD LOVES YOU>
I disagree with you. It is a mortal sin. Many words are not mentioned in the Bible. Bible isn’t even mentioned in the Bible. Fr. Corapi will tell you in his own way that it is a sin. Fr. Corapi is one of the most dedicated priest and he tells it like it is

I think it`s a way to curb our passions
