I have been given the task of selecting the readings for a traditional Catholic wedding.

I have some ideas of my own, but would appreciate any extra suggestions?

They are a traditional but very eclectic couple, that would like something that wasn’t too mainstream.

Thanks

Usually the parish has some already setup to pick from. I would also try the internet.

Peace 🙂

May I ask if the wedding will be a Mass?

If the wedding is to be a nuptial Mass, there are readings with options that may be used. You pretty much have to use those readings and can’t substitue except to use the readings that would be offered at a regular Mass for that day.

If is will be a wedding outside of Mass, I believe you have a lot more options.

for an Old Testament reading, the Song of Songs is always nice. Many people don’t realize the Bible talks about romantic love in such a manner. For the New Testament reading, the “love is patient, love is kind…” one is nice, but very common. My DH and I used the “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice” reading instead. The Gospel can be alot of things, since Jesus talks about love in many places.

The entire 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians. All about love! It was read for both readings at my wedding. Once in English for my english speaking family members, and once in Spanish for my spanish speaking in-laws. Quite beautiful.

you are limited to the readings approved for nuptial Masses, the deacon or priest who is doing the marriage preparation classes will give you a booklet with the approved readings, also approved music.
