Hey all,
I apologize if this has been asked before, perhaps dozens of times, but I haven’t found an adequate answer.
How does the Catholic Church understand the sacrament/mystery of Matrimony?
The Roman Church considers the sacrament to be celebrated by the couple. However, the Byzantine Churches say it must be celebrated by a presbyter or bishop. How do we reconcile that within in the same church? It seems like a fundamental difference in the understanding of the sacrament.
With apologies to my Oriental brethren I don’t know how the sacrament is celebrated in your churches.
