Matt Slick: Catholic Church didn't give us the New Testament

What’s astonishing to me is the millions of Christians in the world that have no way of correcting this Christian and his misguided views, save the Catholic church, allowing this Christian’s falsities to continue corrupting other Christians.

Well, to be fair, I’m Anglican these days, and I likewise think these Baptist viewpoints are terribly misguided. It’s largely how I ended up Anglican. I read a church history book, got into the church fathers. There you have it.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing is that in their hatred for the RCC, these Baptist apologists end up shooting other Protestants in the back. Take, for example, the way they attack the Eucharist and think it is only a symbol. Every time they open their mouths on the subject, Anglicans and Lutherans end up becoming collateral damage. I’m surprised they even think we’re “saved”. I have even seen some of them treat us like we’re “barely saved”. Because–Real Presence! Because–icons! Because–smells and bells! Because–baptismal regeneration!

It makes it all doubly horrifying that these Baptist apologists–like Matt Slick, James White, Dave Hunt, etc.–have become the voice for all of Protestantism. Except, they obviously don’t speak for all of us. But only the loudest get to be heard, and they are so loud that it’s hard for the more sane Protestants to have honest ecumenical dialogue with our Catholic friends. We can’t hear over all the Baptists shouting, ya know?

It makes you wonder how low the bar is for these accredited seminaries, eh? Don’t they require church history courses or something? Shouldn’t they start from the beginning and not skip 1500 years?

I heard a protestant pastor say that in his seminary they went to about the year 100 AD…then they took lunch and came back talking about Martin Luther

We have our differences, but I think that faithful, conservative Anglicans are the most rational protestant denomination of them all.

Most of the others are so far detached from historical Christianity that you sort of expect them to be way off base on most issues. So we usually pay no attention to people like Slick… but he is on a real RCC hating tirade lately. I guess losing all those debates to Catholic apologists the last 10 years wasn’t enough for him, he wants more of the same.

Well, that was…unsurprising coming from Matt Slick. His response reminds me of something Dave Hunt said in his hatchet job, “A Woman Rides the Beast”. Basically, Hunt said that he knew which Scriptures were inspired based on how they made him feel. Yup. Seriously, people like Matt Slick ultimately have very little difference between themselves and Mormons. It’s only a matter of time before a splinter group arises that makes up a new book of “scripture” to add to their canon.

Without historical proof of where something came from, without testimony of others going back to the Apostles, how can anyone know what Scripture is? (This is reason #582 why I am no longer in Calvary Chapel.)

I propose Matt Slick do a “Pepsi Challenge” study. Give new converts snippets of sayings that look like they could be scriptures, and see if they can tell which ones are actually inspired Scripture vs. fabricated. I mean, the new converts will have the Holy Spirit and will totally be able to tell the difference between fake and real Scripture texts using the butterfly-in-tummy method, right?

Please pray for this man.I only got through about 13:30 before I consider myself too deep in a foul smelling substance and realized that he makes the same mistake that Christ condemned in Matthew 22:29 and Mark 12:24 not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

I can simply point to my own blog article: The Eucharist IS Scriptural which covers all the scriptures on the Eucharist and shows how badly ignorant and in error Slick actually is. For someone who claims to be a Bible only Christian and to hold a degree in divinity. (Masters of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Escondido, CA, in 1991.)

Certainly seems to be the case, but one must realize that there is no authority to call to account any of the students such as Slick so then there is so much variance in post graduates beliefs and preaching. Hence we see that the only way in which such anti-Catholic nonsense can be held as true is if no one is allowed to provide both scripture (as I have done) and historical and doctrinal facts. Look at the actual Catechism passages on the Eucharist.

Like I said, outside of the church there is no authority to hold him to account and so long as ignorant people are denied the objective facts by Slick and his ilk, the lies and misinformation will persist.

Slick is a Calvinist but I can find nothing to indicate an affiliation with any Baptist congregation…even so, we need not shout for the truth is loud enough by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Because I can be pushy and obnoxious, he got annoyed. But he didn’t give me what I consider to be an adequate response that doesn’t amount to question begging or some sort of gnostic-like insight into the sacred text.

He, like all Christians, accepts the inspiration of the Bible and the canon because it is a TRADITION.

You can make distinctions and split hairs and argue about minutiae all you like. But that tradition cannot be accepted without inherently arguing for the trustworthiness of those who passed it along. Nothing outside of tradition authenticates that tradition aside from authority.

People do reaction videos on youtube where they download someone’s video and record a somewhat “conversation” with the video. Youtube considers this “fair use”. I plan to do this myself real soon. I wanna correct the misconceptions of the Church and expose the lies and how truth is deliberately hidden. I feel like a bunch of us need to do this and it could help turn the Church around.

I posted on CARM as a protestant and the Catholics who endured there were a real testament to Christ with their patience and calmness. They were always being unfairly deleted/edited and/or banned, yet they kept their cool and hung around anyway.

Many of the non Catholics act like it’s the Jerry Springer show there while the Catholics are well behaved and Christ like. If you are a lurker and on the fence, that speaks volumes. Their work was not in vain.
