Matthew 10:37 and loving God first

How do we understand this verse?

“He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me” (Mt. 10:37).

These are my thoughts:

If a teen shared with his/her parents that they would like to be a priest or sister, and the parents began to talk them out of it every chance they got, the teen needs to be respectful and patient, but not allow the parents persuasion to change their mind, in order to please the parents, and wanting to keep “peace”.

They need to test their vocation, keep praying about it, and pursue it if they believe that is what the Lord wants of them.

Then there is the case where a parent puts their child first in everything and caters to their needs without bothering to instill in them good Christian morals or to have a deep, prayerful love for their faith.

We need to put the Lord first in everything.

***This is a simple yet PROFOUND rule for lifes priorities:

Like the commandment says “Love God with our entire minds, hearts and souls” and as JESUS say’s …“and our neighbors as ourselves.”

If everything:

God First
Family second
Work third
then everything else will follow as God WILLS,👍
