“From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force” – Matthew 11:12
The Catholic commentaries allude this to mortification, prayer, penance, fasting etc. by the faithful. I have two points I would like to propose.

- Through the preaching of St John many have turned from their evil ways and renewed their lives through their change of lives, prayers and fasting. As a consequence the kingdom of God is very near to their heart but could not be grasped. They truly long for the kingdom of heaven with all their heart, hence the kingdom of heaven suffers violence.
- Jesus is the manifestation of the kingdom of heaven. St John pointed his followers to Jesus. Large crowds were constantly pressed upon Jesus following Him wherever He goes, hence the kingdom of heaven suffered violence.
