Regarding this verse (before Jesus goes to heal demon-possessed boy):

“17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.”” (RSV: CE; Matt. 17:17)

This verse has always confused me…is this in reference to the fact that his disciples couldn’t heal the boy because they did not have enough faith (see Matt. 17: 16)? Basically, Jesus is affirming to how long he has to put up with people who do not have faith in God?

It’s probably simple but I’m just not getting it.

It is indeed a reference to 17:16. He is disappointed because he many times has told them that even the littlest faith can accomplish great things.
