Matthew 21:11 - The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Jesus is called here prophet, which muslims use as evidence that Jesus is in fact a prophet, how to answer this one?

Jesus is a prophet. He is also King and Priest. Jesus brings all the Old Testament offices to unity and their ultimate development and absolute realization are found in Himself

Matthew 21:11 merely records what the crowd said. This is consistant with what is recorded earlier in Matthew 16:14 that some of the people thought Jesus was a prophet. However, Jesus’ true identity was revealed by Peter who said that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God, in Matthew 16:16.

Look ahead to Matt 26:59The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.
Code:
Finally two came forward 61and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' "
62Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63But Jesus remained silent.
Code:
The high priest said to him, "**I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.**"
64"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.

65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,” they answered.
In verse 63 the high priest exercised his authority and put Jesus under solemn oath to tell the truth. Here Jesus admits He is the Christ,** the Son of God** (the prophetic “Son of Man” of Dan 7:13-14). This is both blasphemy to the priests and blasphemy it must also be to the Muslims. Jesus was MUCH more than a prophet.

***Hi, daraku!

The problem is that you are dealing with people who do not accept Jesus as God; as most of them, they will look for weak passages and blow them out of proportion while, simultaneously, ignoring important passages:

Mt:17:5:
5 And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.*** (DRV)

What greater testimony do we need than that of Yahweh God Himself telling us that Jesus is His Son?

Gal:1:1:
1 ¶ Paul, an apostle, not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead: (DRV)

Here’s Paul who was visited by the ascended Christ and annointed as an Apostle to the Gentiles testifying that his Apostleship and Mission did not come to him by human means but that Christ Himself selected him to serve God.

12 ¶ Giving thanks to God the Father, who hath made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For in him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by him and in him. 17 And he is before all: and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may hold the primacy: 19 Because in him, it hath well pleased the Father that all fulness should dwell: 20 And through him to reconcile all things unto himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, both as to the things that are on earth and the things that are in heaven. 21 And you, whereas you were some time alienated and enemies in mind in evil works: 22 Yet now he hath reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unspotted and blameless before him: 23 If so ye continue in the faith, grounded and settled, and immoveable from the hope of the gospel which you have heard, which is preached in all the creation that is under heaven: whereof I Paul am made a minister. 24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his body, which is the church: 25 Whereof I am made a minister according to the dispensation of God, which is given me towards you, that I may fulfil the word of God: 26 The mystery which hath been hidden from ages and generations, but now is manifested to his saints, 27 To whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ, in you the hope of glory. 28 Whom we preach, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 29 Wherein also I labour, striving according to his working which he worketh in me in power. (Colossians 1:12-29–DRV)

This passage is lengthy and loaded you should familiarize yourself with it before presenting it… it clearly demonstrate that Jesus is way much more than a prophet!

Sorry to say this, but none of you have proved that Jesus is God the Son, if that was what you were trying to do.

One person said He is Priest, Prophet and King.

Another person said Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God.

Another person said that Jesus is the Son of God and the Son of Man

Another person said that God declared that Jesus was His Son.

Its strange, you know, how we say that “God” called Jesus His Son, and that Jesus is the Son of “God” etc., because these terms distinguish Jesus from God. If Jesus is God too, why aren’t we saying, the “Father” called Jesus His Son, and that Jesus is the Son of “God the Father”. Otherwise it looks as though God is the only God, and that Jesus is not God Himself.

I don’t get this use of words. Why did you say that “Yahweh God” was telling us that Jesus is His Son? Isnt Jesus Yahweh as well?

Again it is whom we Catholics call God the Father, who is called “God” and “Yahweh”, but not Jesus or the Holy Spirit. If all three Persons are God, how come its the Father that is called God?

You simply expand his titles, he is Prophet, King, Priest, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, Almighty God ( Rev 1:8).

In fact, Hebrews 1 makes it plain that he is the last and greatest prophet,

Hebrews 1

1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

** 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,** when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

So, what kind of a prophet is He?
***Hi!

Are you truly unaware or are you being true to your alter ego?
12 ¶ Giving thanks to God the Father, who hath made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For in him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers. Please study the highlighted passages, you will discover:
  • Christ is the Son of God
  • God the Father placed everything in God the Son
  • Everything in Creation, both on Heaven and earth, has been Created by the Son, and in the Son
*Is is only through His Blood, Death on the Cross, that we (mankind) are made right by God
*It is only through His cleansing that we (mankind) can obtain Salvation and be accepted in the presence of God.

The crowds said that about Jesus, not Jesus himself.

Jesus said “I AM” about himself.

***Hi!

I think that you are suffering from is acceptance of the Holy Scriptures… don’t get me wrong, this is a great place to be if you truly want to learn… but, I must warn you, science and intellect is not going to you much good.

Through science you will demand that God be subject to your whims (show yourself). Through intellect you will reject anything that the Holy Scriptures will tell you, unless it supports your personal interpretation.

It is Yahweh’s who determined how He reveals Himself to us:

1 In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God: and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made.*** (St. John 1:1-3–DRV)

Jesus, Yeshua, is the Word Who was from the biginning with God and Who was God. Yet, before this is revealed, in the Old Testament, Yahweh establishes that there is only One God:

10 You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know, and believe me, and understand that I myself am. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there shall be none. 11 I am, I am the Lord: and there is no saviour besides me. 12 I have declared, and have saved. I have made it heard, and there was no strange one among you. You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and I am God.
13 And from the beginning I am the same, and there is none that can deliver out of my hind: (Isaiah 43:10-13a–DRV)

Here Yahweh establishes that outside of Him there is no God: He Alone is God; and that there is no Change in Him: He is forever the same God.

11 For my own sake, for my own sake will I do it, that I may not be blasphemed: and I will not give my glory to another. (Isaiah 48:11–DRV)

Yahweh is not willing to share His Glory (Power, Omnipotense, the worshipping of His people…)

20 But while he thought on these things, behold the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name Jesus. For he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying:
23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (St. Matthew 1:20-23–DRV)

Jesus, the Word Incarnate (Jn 1:1-18), is introduece as the Immanuel. This God-with-us not only shares the Titles of Yahweh (Is 9:6-7) but is revealed as the Promised One (Yahweh is to come to His people and live among them: Jl 3:21).

Again, how God chooses to reveal Himself to us is not ours to determine:

13 ¶ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, unto John, to be baptized by him. 14 But John stayed him, saying: I ought to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering, said to him: Suffer it to be so now. For so it becometh us to fulfil all justice. Then he suffered him. 16 And Jesus being baptized, forthwith came out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to him: and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him. 17 And behold a voice from heaven saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (St. Matthew 3:13-17–DRV)

Jesus, Yeshua, came to fulfill all of the ancient prophecies concerning the Salvation of mankind–the Father and the Holy Spirit are His Witnesses! Why God chose to Save us in such manner as to reveal Himself as the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit is a mystery that some of us might get to learn… when we become as He is! (1 Co 13:12)

***Hi!

…perhaps usage!

My first Bible was the Jerusalem Bible (though I did not realy read it consciously till I got to h s)… but I came to know the Father (Abba) as Yahweh. When I read through another version of the Holy Scriptures that does not use the term Yahweh… I feel funny… like something is missing or like the Catholic Church is selling out… using a homogenized term so as not to “offend.”

Yahweh is God, and Yeshua is God, and the Holy Spirit is God… but God chose to reveal Himself as such: 3 in 1!

In the Old Testament we come to know God as the Father or Yahweh; though the Holy Spirit is also seen in the Old Testament, and it was revealed by Paul that Jesus too was there… the Person of God that we come to recognize is the Father, Yahweh. Jesus comes to us in the fullness of times and we come to know Him as the Immanuel (God with us… Is 9:6-7); but His relationship with mankind is that of Savior, Teacher, Shepherd,Servant, Master, Brother… Redeemer is the one stickler… Thomas acquiesces and calls to Him, “…my Lord and my God.” But that is not as intimate as brother or Jesus or Christ or even the Word–all of these titles remind us that it was in the Person of Jesus that God came to the world to Save us!

Conversely, the Apostles attribute to the Holy Spirit that which was said by Yahweh God in the Old Testament, and Jesus transfered the ancient warning about not blaspheming against God’s Name (which also meant against God) to the Holy Spirit. But we come to know Him more clearly as the Lord Giver of Life, the Power of God, the Paraclete, the Guide, the intimate friend that calls to the Father in ways that only God’s own Spirit can know. (Conundrum: the Holy Spirit is also known as the Sprit of God and as the Spirit of Christ… go figure! 🤷 )

Lastly, it’s a matter of Faith:

3 Wherefore, I give you to understand that no man, speaking by the Spirit of God, saith Anathema to Jesus. And no man can say The Lord Jesus, but by the Holy Ghost.*** (1 Corinthians 12:3–DRV; compare with St. Matthew 3:14-17)

We can only come to God in His terms, as humbling as that is!
