I was wondering. Anyone have the Greek language and literal translation for the bolded “end of the world” here?

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
 
Yes. The Greek here is *sunteleia aiOn – συντελειά άιων – *which, freely translated, means “the completion of the age.”

Thanks. I checked out an online resource and the definition of “aion” is “forever, a perpetuity of time, eternity”.

I’m not sure if you are trying to correct me here or simply adding another definition. For the best source on this word try the Perseus web site. There you’ll find the usages of the word during a contemporary period of time.

“completion of the age”, such as the era of grace?

Just a quick observation. I’ve heard it also referred to as “the consummation of the world (or age)”. Would this be essentially the same meaning as completion, or would it connote more of a sense of fufillment or fruition, as Maggie’s post suggests?

Not at all trying to correct you! Just adding the definition I found on a website. I apologize if I came across as trying to correct you.
 
I have access to a copy of the Greek New Testament According to the Byzantine Text, it says “συντελειας του αιωνος”

According the Strong’s, the key word says this:

165** **αἰών aion /ahee·ohn/] n m. From the same as 104; TDNT 1:197; TDNTA 31; GK 172; 128 occurrences; AV translates as “ever” 71 times, “world” 38 times, “never + 3364 + 1519 + 3588” six times, “evermore” four times, “age” twice, “eternal” twice, and translated miscellaneously five times. 1 for ever, an unbroken age, perpetuity of time, eternity. 2 the worlds, universe. 3 period of time, age.

It would be more correct to understand this in the sense of the “age of man.” Whether or not that is the end of the world is not really significant, but that the “age of man” would be the length of time that Jesus is with us.

So how do we know the length of time that Jesus is with us? I am not thinking in terms of the end of the world. My thought was based solely upon the era in which we live as an era of grace, because Jesus is with us through the Eucharist, and the old era, that is the Old Testament ended with the Death and Resurrection of Jesus on the Cross.

From a theological perspective, the Church teaches that Jesus will be with us until the second coming (parousia). That second coming will be the “end of the age of man” since it will reflect the completion of salvation history.
