my dad is stuck on this misconseption of the 4 gospels were by the jews and for the jews. not for us… how do I refute this very wrong belief?

Matthew’s Gospel was written for a Jewish audience, yes. That’s why he spends so much time proving that Jesus fulfilled all the Jewish Messianic prophecies.
But look at the final words that Jesus proclaims in Matthew’s Gospel:

Tell your dad to read Acts of the Apostles. At first, the New Covenant Church that Jesus started through the Apostles is for the Jews only. Then in chapter 9 and 10, you see the Gentiles brought into the Church. Same Church, but open to non-Jews, although the question of religious customs is still open for debate. Then in Chapter 15, you see all the Jewish Laws lifted from the backs of the Gentiles (except for 4 of them), thus allowing the New Covenant Church to grow into the Catholic Church that we see today !! Hence, the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed… 
P.S. The 4 remaining customers were later lifted, according to Paul’s letter to the Galatians (I think that’s the Epistle).

By your dad’s reasoning, the entire Old Testament would be reserved for the Jews. Guess we don’t need to know about Creation, the history of God’s covenant, or any of that stuff…
Meanwhile, the Letter to the Colossians would be reserved for people living in one small town in modern-day Turkey; so would Corinthians. Ditto the others. In fact, you could say that of every book of the Bible; none of them were addressed “To the Americans of the 21st Century”.
Rejecting them all sure would simplify Bible study!
You might want to look up arguments against Marcion and the Marcionites, who wanted to rewrite the Bible in order to remove all Jewish influence.
On the positive side, there’s a wonderful FREE Bible study of Matthew at the St Paul Center for Biblical Theology. (Scott Hahn’s thing.) Nothing like getting your dad interested.

My dad is a stuburn man, I am planting seeds of truth (from you all) in our conversations. I pray that one of these seeds will take root.
