Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Thanks to all who have been making this Novena (and to anyone who made a Triduum) in preparation for tomorrow’s Solemnity of Pentecost. It has been a blessing for me and I trust it has pleased the Lord to hear our prayers even as He was pleased to hear Mary praying with His apostles and disciples before the Holy Spirit came at the first Pentecost:
NINTH DAY (Saturday, Vigil of Pentecost)
Thanks to all who have been making this Novena (and to anyone who made a Triduum) in preparation for tomorrow’s Solemnity of Pentecost. It has been a blessing for me and I trust it has pleased the Lord to hear our prayers even as He was pleased to hear Mary praying with His apostles and disciples before the Holy Spirit came at the first Pentecost:
May we all pray on this vigil with great attention and devotion not only for ourselves but for the Church and for all those in most need of God’s Mercy; excerpts below are from the Novena; link in the first sentence of post is to complete Novena:… When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the Mother of Jesus, and His brothers. (Acts 1: 13-14)
NINTH DAY (Saturday, Vigil of Pentecost)
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
The gifts of the Holy Spirit perfect the supernatural virtues by enabling us to practice them with greater docility to divine inspiration. As we grow in the knowledge and love of God under the direction of the Holy Spirit, our service becomes more sincere and generous, the practice of virtue more perfect. Such acts of virtue leave the heart filled with joy and consolation and are known as Fruits of the Holy Spirit. These Fruits in turn render the practice of virtue more attractive and become a powerful incentive for still greater efforts in the service of God, to serve Whom is to reign.
Prayer
Come, O Divine Spirit, fill my heart with Thy heavenly fruits, Thy charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, faith, mildness, and temperance, that I may never weary in the service of God, but by continued faithful submission to Thy inspiration may merit to be united eternally with Thee in the love of the Father and the Son. Amen.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray with us, and for us. Father, thank you for sending Jesus through Mary, by the power of your Holy Spirit. Jesus, we trust in You. Thank You, with the Father for sending the Holy Spirit upon Your Church. May the Holy Spirit complete Your work in us and renew Your Church, and renew the face of the earth.… Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, “Speak Lord for Your servant heareth.” Amen.
