I’m a catholic carismatic and i want to know if is not bad to hear other christian music.:blessyou:

Of course it’s all right to hear it but just remember that the words do not always follow Catholic doctrine. So listening is fine, just don’t believe everything you hear.

First of all, click my porfile and search all my post related to Charismatic.

Second of all, there’s no place for Michael W. Smith in Mass or any other those pop stuff.

In other place, yes you can hear it and play it.

Whew!!! You meant CHRISTIAN. I thought you were talking about Christina, as in Aguilera, to which I would reply a decisive NO!

i am catholic an in particular i don’t listen to it, personally i like latin music. but i don’t find that’s is wrong to listen to christian music.i heard some of it have a lot of good positive message. bless you:)

At one time one of our children dated a Pentecostal for a few months. We had to listen to a lot of that Christian stuff from soft rock to heavy metal to rap. Some were downright heretical… never mind lame.

Always be carefule with any lyrics that are questionable. We are not to trust our ‘touchy feelies’ but walk by faith and not by sight…feelings.

Praise songs are great, GOD does get the praise…beyond that, watch the doctrine of the Protestant lyrics!

I don’t think there is any contemporary Christian song that has touched me more than Twila Paris’ How Beautiful…so Eucharistic in nature, it leaves me sobbing when I hear it or try to sing it.

I sing that has a prelude song for every wedding. What a great song! 👍

I’m not sure what the quote thingy did to your post (edited to say, what’s it now done to my quote of your quote?)…do you mean the How Beautiful song (“how beautiful the radiant bride who waits for her groom with His light in her eye”) or the We Are One Body song? They both are so lovely for a marriage ceremony.

Last night on EWTN Father Groeschel was talking about Christ being the groom and the Church His bride and thinking of these two songs is refreshing this idea anew in my mind…what a beautiful concept the Church has given us…it’s good to remember that us lonely singles have Christ in this special way, too.

Just like any other music, discretion is required. Heck, secular music is a lot of times not in line with the Catholic faith either.

There is a lot of Christian music out there that is very good and worthy.

I agree.

BTW…hi 👋

Can’t go wrong with Gregorian Chant…

Even Protestants are starting to re-use it! :bigyikes:

If you can find something worthy to listen to, then great. But yeah, people should remember that not every great Christian song is suitable for Mass.

Personally, I have a hard time finding CCM that I like. I grew up Protestant in the heyday of Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith (but my favorite was Steve Taylor!) so I’ve BTDT. The music doesn’t seem to have progressed much since then. I do turn on the local Christian radio station when I can’t get our AM Catholic station tuned in, but only because it is family-friendly so I don’t have to worry about what my girls are hearing in the car. The music is just blah.

Artists I do like currently? Actually, I can only think of one, and he’s not played on CCM stations ever so far as I can tell: Michael Card. And he did an album with John Michael Talbot (Catholic) so I guess that puts him in the nearly-Catholic category, which is maybe why he isn’t played on the radio! He is a very original musician and every album is quite different from the last. My favorites are “Starkindler” (Celtic Christian hymns) and “Brother to Brother” (the album with JMT).

Anyone have any recommendations for new CCM artists? I’ll tell you right now, I despise (or at least am not impressed by) groups like Point of Grace or Jars of Clay, etc. MWS has gotten stale. I’d listen to every Veggie Tales CD we have before listening to a full album of any of those groups! 🙂 Actually, “Belly of a Whale” sung by ? was written by Steve Taylor… Great bopping around song.

Me, too! Wasn’t Steve Taylor the one that sang “Angry Young Men” about how wrapped up in money Christians are and how “one man claimed if he didn’t get enough he’d die” in an obvious reference to Oral Roberts? I always liked that song!

John Michael Talbot has always been a favorite of mine. When I was Protestant, they played his songs occasionally on the CCM radio station, but they never mentioned he was Catholic. Imagine my surprise when I became Catholic and found out he had been all along!

I think it’s OK to listen to non-Catholic Christian music, although I agree with using your judgement regarding the doctrine in it (and not all of it is suitable for Mass).

One additional thing I do, is try to find out something about the artist. If the artist is a bigoted Catholic-hating person, then I don’t want to help support his/her career by buying the music.

I was a sometime Catholic, at least when it suited my mood at the time, when I was introduced to the new christian music, similiar with the rock music at the time, through a co-worker. It was by listening to this music, and one song in particular by Don Francisco, called Too Small a Price, that I was led to see the error of my ways. The song is portrayed as seeing Jesus through the good thief’s eyes, and in effect, you get a chance to see how pathetic your own situation is, as you ridicule Jesus on the cross at first and then accept his divine love and forgiveness. Also, I started listening to the music put out by John Michael Talbot at the time before he converted to Catholicism. He had become one of my favorite artists even while still a Protestant.

I think the christian music is fine, but it can be just as hazardous as some of the secular music can be. Just be aware of what the message is.
