May a Lutheran have access to a Catholic priest for Confession?

Good morning,

I was curious what the Roman Catholic position is, regarding access to a Roman Catholic priest for private confession, for those who are not Roman Catholic.

For example, as a very catholic minded Lutheran, I understand the sacramental nature of Confession and Absolution very much along the lines of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I do not, however, have access to a Lutheran pastor who makes this sacrament available to us. Would such an individual be free to present themselves for private sacramental confession to a Roman Catholic priest?

Hi,

I’m afraid that if you want to act as a Catholic, you have to be a Catholic. This is not to be persnickety. I doubt that your Lutheran pastor would much take to the idea of one of his flock going to a Catholic priest for Confesssion.

Catholics act as Catholics and Lutherans act as Lutherans. You are in my prayers.
