May a man is his 50s become a contemplative?

before registering with Catholic Forum, I read the question of an older gentleman, who asked," Is it possible to begin a vocation as a contemplative religious, now that I’m a widower, and in my 70’s?

I, now, am asking,"Is it possible for men over 50 to begin a comtemplative vocation as a religious? Or, do the number of physical problems, as well as having lived in a prior, set pattern of living, work against such an aspiration?

Dear friend,

It is possible for a man in his 50s to become a monk or at least an oblate in a monastery. I suggest that you write some Trappist abbeys. Here is a list of them in the U.S.
