May a priest use grape juice for the Eucharist?

I have been attending a Ukrainian Catholic Church. When I take communion I am very sure the blood is grape juice, as I detect no alcohol and it simply just tastes like Welch’s Grape Juice.

I am not sure if this is allowed in the Eastern Rites, or if this is a liturgical abuse.

Any comments on what to do would be great.

Dear friend,

If it is grape juice, then that is all that it is. For a valid consecration, wine is absolutely essential. Ask the priest.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
