When I was in Catholic grade school, a May Crowning was held yearly, Is a May Crowning a religious requirement in the Roman Catholic Church?

It’s not required but it’s a lovely tradition. We have one at our parish every year.

Believe it or not I’m pretty OLD, but many years ago I was Queen of the May in San Anselmo, California – we had a procession in the streets of San Anselmo and it seems to me there were all kinds of dancers aroound the float I was in – as I remember it was a wonderful day and I have many pictures of that day!!!

It is a long held Catholic tradition to honor Mary during the month of May. My parish holds a yearly May Crowing that is attended by the children who have just made their First Holy Communion. One of these children do the crowning of Mary’s statue. Also each one of the children receive a Miraculous medal from the Pastor.

No. My school aways had one but this year was the first our parish did, and it was a lovely thing to see. I was honored to crown Our Mother at one of the Masses, which had been a dream of mine since 6 😛

A Protestant friend inquired: Is May the only month that a May Crowning can be held? Or can this event be held in any other month?

It’s traditionally held in May. Hence “May Crowning.” But, there is not any law that prevents a Crowning from being down in any other month, though again, it is traditionally done in May. 👍

The Protestant friend remarked that an excellent answer was given.

This sounds like a Groucho Marx question. “What month is the May crowning held…for 100.00?”

Contestant answers: March

👍 There’s a blast from the pre-Vatican II past. For those born later, think Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link
