Hi.

May 1st is approaching, which means it will be time for the May crowning! 😃

I’ve never performed the May crowning, and for the images of Mary I have in my home, I would like the do this. However, I’m very confused: is there some sort of special ritual involved? Prayers said? And what is used for the crown?

I’ve checked some online links, but they mostly cater to how children can be more involved with the process, not how new Catholics such as myself do this! So, therefore, any words of wisdom would be highly appreciated!

There are some proper rituals for crownings in the church. This is because a lot of times, the coronations are within a liturgical context in the church.
However, for one in your home, feel free to do whatever you want. You can crown your statue at home with flowers or with a regular metal crown. I suggest you sing bring flowers of the fairest as I believe that that is the most proper hymn for a crowning. You can have a procession around you house with family before the crowning or you can say the rosary after the crowning. It is all up to you.
