I’m confused by something I heard on one of the Catholic radio shows (either with Patrick Madrid or Patrick Coffin). It sounded as though the apologist was saying that it was a sin for faithful Catholics to attend other faiths’ services. We have a very good friend who is like a grandmother to our daughter and is a protestant Christian who is getting remarried this summer. She was widowed several years ago. We would like to support her and attend the wedding, but would that be considered against our faith?
We also occasionally attend my mother’s (who is deceased) former church, a protestant church where my stepfather still attends and sings in the choir. When we visit the area, he sometimes asks us to come hear the choir that my mother used to direct. We do not miss Mass in order to do this ever. We also do not take what they call communion. We go for fellowship with my family that I don’t see very often.
What are your thoughts?
