My daughter has announced that she is getting married in May to a Marine she met three months ago who is being transferred in June to Hawaii. They don’t have time to go through marriage prep in the Cathiolic Church, so they are getting married outside the Church. The priest I asked told me that I am allowed, in the interests of family unity and to be there to pick up the pieces later. ANother prises told my daughter’s mother that we are not allowed, that it would be a sin. What is the true teaching of the Church in this matter?

Thanks and God bless you

Lee,

The following links should assist you in understanding the Catholic Church’s teaching on whether you are permitted to attend (under the strain of mortal sin) regarding your daughter’s non-Catholic ceremony.
