May is almost half over. Has your parish had a May crowning? Is one scheduled?

Hint: Vatican II did not forbid them. šŸ˜‰

To my knowledge, my parish hasn’t had one in 40 years. 😦

:yup: Yup, first Sunday in May Mary is always crowned at the end of all the Masses. After the Saturday night Mass we have a procession around the block that the church and school are on with Mary and we pray the rosary. Then the Litany of Mary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. šŸ‘

Yes, one Parish had it a week ago, the other (Marian named Parish) saved it til this week as it was the 140th anniversary and they waned the big crowning to be part of the celebratio.

BTW, what math says the 10th is almost half of 30 😃

I forgot to check,(today was my first day home). But IIRC, usually we have one, it usually isnt a big ceremony, but it is done

No, none done, none scheduled. Matter of fact, I’d never heard of a May crowning until I started coming to CAF.

Yep, and it was beautiful.

Traditionally in our parish, the soon to be First Communicants lead the procession and place flowers by the statue.

The Confirmandi follow, the boys (in suits) are joined by the KofC and form an honor guard while the girls ( in light blue graduation style robes) process up to the statue. One of the girls (in a white robe) will place the crown on Mary’s head.

Here’s a pic

When I was in Grade School, in the 40s/50s we had a special May Crowning of Mary every year. The 8th graders were the ones who processioned into Church and one of the girls had the honor of crowning a statue of the Blessed Virgin. I remember, one of the girl’s mother was very competitive about having her daughter crown the statue. I don’t think she got to. I don’t remember the role of the boys.

In High School we had May Day crowning of Mary’s statue outside on the campus which was beautiful. I went to an all girl’s school, Notre Dame.

Yep, we just did one for the CCD kids the other night. It was very nice.

First Sunday in May, every year.

Normally, two children, one boy, one girl, from the 1st Communion class have the honor. We do it at each Mass.

Next Sunday will be a Procession. We have a new statue of Mary. Mary of the Welcomes. I saw her still in the crate. She is beautiful. We are getting new carpet in the church & the Bishop is coming! There will be a rosary & food & bands. Not sure of how all this will go down since I’ve only been back for a year. Husband was babtized at Easter & he isn’t too sure what he thinks about Mary. He reveres her as Jesus mother. But feels more comfortable just praying to Jesus. I’m interested to see what he will think of his first procession & all the Mary ā€œstuffā€.
I’ll report in next week.šŸ™‚

Wow… that takes me back to Catholic school. šŸ™‚ The May Crowning was my favorite time of the year, where many of the students took turns reciting the ā€œHail Maryā€ in front of the altar. I remember saying it nervously… :rotfl:

Sorry, just had to ramble. 😃

Our parish always has the Crowning of Mary on Mother’s Day; and that took place today.

:getholy::harp:

Yes. My home parish had one last week, and the Cathedral, which we visit frequently, had it today.

My parish has 4 seperate crownings:

One for the Families group
One for the Children/Parochial School
One for the Spanish Ministry
and another one in case you missed the rest I guess.

Nobody knows why we have so many…

The parish waits until the last group of kids receive first Communion, which will be this coming Saturday so the May crowning will be on Sunday followed by a First Communicants Communion breakfast. The school holds theirs at the end of the month. Not sure why they don’t participate in the parish one…something about keeping things separate, which I don’t agree with at all but it is the principal’s call.

We had ours yesterday, on Mother’s Day. It was outdoors and the weather cooperated! Thank you, Blessed Mother!

We will have a crowning next week MOnday for CCD. I have not heard of the parish having other crownings and none were listed in the bulletin.
