May my non-verbal son receive Holy Communion?

Can my nonverbal handicapped son recieve Eucharits? If not, why? I can lie about things and recieve. He can’t even talk.

Dear d,

Being verbal is not a requirement for receiving the Eucharist. Having reached the age of reason (ordinarily around seven years of age) or its equivalent is a requirement in the Western Church. I would encourage you to see your pastor regarding your son. If he can understand that somehow it is the Body of Christ, then he should be able to receive it. He is in our prayers.
