May my son miss Mass at the National Baseball Championships?

My son has been invited to go to the national baseball championships and his coach has generously offered to take him and is not a catholic. My son has no way of getting to mass. Our young associate pastor said he can not go unless someone there takes him to mass. I did not think this was correct. What is correct on this.
