I am an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion in my pairsh. I have been taking Holy Communion every Friday to a very ill parishioner after Mass. Recently Father was on retreat and we had a Communion service on Friday and I tried to search documents to see if it was proper for me to take Holy Communion to him from a Communion service. In my reasoning I was somewhat uncomfortable - and asked our Deacon. He wondered why I was even wondering and gave me permission though in the past he has not been fully reliable on matters of faith.

For my own peace of mind - please advise if this is proper to take Holy Communion to the sick from a Communion service - not from Mass.

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes it is appropriate to bring the Eucharist to the sick from a Communion service. With the pastor’s permission one can bring the Eucharist to the sick outside of any scheduled service.
