May humans curse this earth or that should come from GOD only per (Genesis 3:17)?

I suppose it depends on what you mean by “curse the earth.”

If you mean burning the crops and salting the fields (so that people cannot grow food) then obviously not.

If you mean saying “I curse the earth” then you are really asking if someone can say something meaningless and stupid. It is not within our power to curse the earth (without the additional burning and salting). Only God can do that.

Whether or not it is sinful all depends on the person’s intent (as always). If the person intends to indirectly insult God by insulting his Creation then it is the sin of blasphemy (provided he also has the requisite knowledge and intent). If the person is just being stupid then it’s not a sin.

Sometimes when I hear the crises and the miserable news of our world, I get angry and sometimes I wish to curse this earth and the prince of this world to calm myself ! 😊

When most people go a-cursing, they get themselves more worked up. I have never calmed myself by cursing.

But it is rather pointless to curse the earth or the devil. God has already done both (in a manner of speaking), and that ought to be sufficient.

But if it makes you feel better, go for it!

My sympathies are with you, Sam. It pains me to hear the senseless, irrational bleating of these lost sheep. Modern television, writing, and music are very painful to watch, listen to, or even recognise the existence of.

But if I take some time to sit down and think, it helps me greatly. Modern culture doesn’t afford us the time or thought to sit and think. It’s always telling us, “do! do! do!”. But when we think, we realise the frenetic nature of our culture is because it’s not at peace. It has forgotten God. It has forgotten common sense. Therefore, it’s trying, really trying, to find good. But it’s looking in all the wrong places.

All of the sexual perversion in the media is the media trying to find, not only pleasure, but peace. It will never do it, and you know that.

Instead of cursing the world, take heart and have compassion for them as our Lord did for the people of Israel when they gathered around Him to listen to Him. Pray for the world. Educate yourself on how to be a good Catholic. And live a good Catholic life as an example to the world.

I got all of this from the Bible, from the Fathers, from the Catechism. From good, Catholic culture. I must thank Mother Angelica and the fine folks who run the local Catholic radio station for teaching me this. Without them, and without Catholic Answers, I doubt I would be enjoying this advice.

Well the Earth IS cursed allright by so many people doing the ungodly things, we as Christians need instead to bless the earth and pray for the conversion of all the sinners including ourselves!

Are you talking about “earth” the planet, or are you equating earth with the “world” in the context of Jesus saying that we are in the world, but not of the world? This is an important distinction. God does not call us to curse anything, but to love all that he creates. Darkness/evil are not being, they are non-being (they are not “something”; they are the absence of something) and, therefore, cannot be cursed (you can’t curse what does not exist…as in having being).

God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son to redeem it. In so doing He blessed it forevermore. And you would undo that by way of a curse? Then we would all indeed be lost!
