Hello everyone,

May someone please recommend and suggest a Roman Catholic church in my area? I live in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Its in the Lehigh Valley. Would I be looking for Eastern Catholic Churches?

I appreciate it, and thank you!

Just to clarify, are you specifically looking for Eastern Catholic Churches?

There are tons of them in Pennsylvania as I learned from a recent trip. 🙂

Would they be the ones that has a Pope? If so, yes!

Thank you for your reply.

A Google search produced this for Bethlehem, PA:
my-olph.org/index.cfm?active=1

Is it close enough to you? If not, I’m sure if you phone them they will tell you where is your nearest RC Church.

There was also a St. Joseph’s RC Church “founded by Slovenians” that seemed to have a Facebook page rather than a website.

Eastern Catholic Churches are in “communion” with Rome. That means they are in good standing with the Pope and are a part of the Catholic Church that was founded by Jesus on St. Peter(the first pope).

Here is a link that will help you.
thecatholicdirectory.com/directory.cfm?fuseaction=search_directory&absolutecity=Bethlehem&state=PA&country=US

And not that this is super important but here is a list of all the Popes ever, descending from Peter the apostle whom Christ built Church on according to Matthew 16:13-19.

Just to clarify, by Eastern Catholic Churches you mean the different rite and culture based Catholic Church?

Or did you mean to ask whether to look for Eastern Catholic Churches because of the geographical (Eastern) location of Pennsylvania in the United States?

If the first question is what you referred to:

St. Josaphat Parish
1826 Kenmore Ave
Bethlehem, PA 18018 US

Website: stjosaphatbethlehem.us/

^ They are an Eastern Catholic Church (Ukranian)

Also Byzantine Rite:

SS Peter and Paul Parish
1140 Johnston Drive
Bethlehem, PA 18017 US

If you meant so by the second question I had, and have no particular inclination; just any Catholic Church - These are some!

All Catholic Churches are under the Pope - just so you know!

Assumption Parish (Colesville)
4101 Old Bethleham Pike
Bethlehem, PA 18015 US

Holy Infancy Church
312 E 4th St
Bethlehem, PA 18015-1706 US

Incarnation of Our Lord
617 Pierce Street
Bethlehem, PA 18015 US

Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church
1861 Catasauqua Rd.
Bethlehem, PA 18018-1211 US

Our Lady of Perpetual Help
3219 Santee Rd
Bethlehem, PA 18017 US

Sacred Heart Parish
1817 First St
Bethlehem, PA 18017 US

SS Simon & Jude Parish
730 W Broad St
Bethlehem, PA 18018 US

University Parish of Holy Ghost
417 Carlton Ave
Bethlehem, PA 18015 US

Find the nearest one you! God bless!

I’m not exactly sure what rite and what church type it would be, I thought I was looking for Eastern Catholic Churches, but I could be wrong? I am going to explain and give a link to this church, but find something similar or the same close by because this Church would be out of state of the llink I am going to provide.

I am 31 years old, and I was born in NJ, but moved to PA when I was 8. I was baptized as Roman Catholic in a Roman Catholic church, and that Church is in NJ, and I’m not in that state anymore. So, I would like to go to Church based on the religion I was baptized for. I was hoping someone could get the information from the link I am going to provide, and share with me what rite, and what type of Church that is, and find a Church in my area?

The Church is St Anthony RC Church located in East Newark, NJ.

If you were baptized in St. Anthony’s Church in East Newark you were baptized Catholic.
That church is Roman Catholic (Roman Rite)- and here is a link to it:

thecatholicdirectory.com/directory.cfm?fuseaction=display_site_info&siteid=51846

If you have a ZIP Code I might be able to further p(name removed by moderator)oint a closer Church to you that is of the Roman Rite, but the majority of the links provided before are of the Roman Rite.

All Catholic Church rites however are under the Pope - But some are different rites that are culturally, linguistically, and ethnically different. But still there is no problem going to an Eastern Catholic Church if that is your preference.

Since you are more familiar with the Roman Rite, you can try out

Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church
1861 Catasauqua Rd.
Bethlehem, PA 18018-1211 US

Click this Link: churchofndbeth.org/

Thank you so much, Mike. The Notre Dame Catholic Church is in my zip code. Thank you! My zip code is 18018.

Thank you for your reply.
Eastern Catholic Churches and Roman Catholic Churches are both united under The Pope. They are different in liturgy and culture, but they are both united.

Would someone please answer my above questions?
Notre Dame would likely be Roman rite.

My guess here is, when it came to your initial question, you were thinking of Catholics, on the Eastern side of the United States(?), if I’m not mistaken.

Would Notre Dame be Roman Rite? Or what Rite would it be?
Yes, I think that Lester is correct; you are asking about Catholic Churches on the East side of the U.S. - not “Eastern Catholic” churches.

Just FYI “Eastern Catholic” is the way to refer to churches of one of the Eastern rites, like Byzantines, Melkites, etc. Nothing to do with their geographical location.

Though there are quite a few Eastern Catholic churches in the East, there are also quite a few in the West. And North. And South. 👍

Thank you for the information! I rather go to a church like Notre Dame that is a Roman Rite Church. I wasn’t sure if Eastern Catholic was Roman Rite or not, and from all my replies it seems like it is not.

Thank you again!
