May We Respect Our Differences Without Attempting to Destroy Another's Faith?

You yourself have betrayed your position
Your questions I won’t give lengthy answers to two of them because there things, if you were a member, would give you the explanation you are seeking, so answering them here is of no benefit.
If you cannot tell us as we are not members of the LDS, then how and why should we ask you?

For the record, and this is not a position that I hold with the LDS, by definition, if a church will not be up-front with 100% of its doctrines, it is a cult.

Further, a “Christian” denomination that teaches “secret” knowledge is guilty of Gnosticism (I think. It is one of those old heresies).

What is the point if I am seeking to know if the Catholic church claims are accurate? Believing the enemies is real wise.
The Catholic Church has a catechism that anyone can read. It spells out all of our doctrines very clearly and in great detail.

Mormonism has no fixed set of doctrines. Ask ten Mormons and you’ll get ten very different answers.

Mormon prophets and apostles have authoritatively taught all kinds of doctrines that are accepted by some Mormons and rejected by others (polygamy, blood atonement, Adam-God, god of your own planet, polygamous Jesus with offspring, etc). So no one can ever know what Mormon doctrine really is. That leaves the door open for Mormons to tell investigators whatever they think we want to hear.

Mormons lie, everyone knows it. That is why we go to non-Mormon sources for information.

Paul (a former Mormon)

I question if you went into the temple itself – did you go into a visitor’s center explaining about the temple and other church beliefs?

Only temple recommend holders may enter the temples anywhere worldwide – nonmembers may go into one for public open houses only (the temple was refurnished and would be dedicated again)
There was no real effort to explain the Mormon Church beliefs, if anything he was more curious about my faith. In Nauvoo, Jews are pretty scarce, after all. I don’t know how much of the temple I saw, I remember the incredible colors in the murals, they seemed to show all the seasons if you looked at them all. And the hanging lamps were both beautiful and practical.

I believe he did say I could not see the ceiling room and a few other spots, so perhaps that’s the areas that are off limits. He wasn’t the only one there, so I’m guessing he didn’t do anything wrong in letting me see it. I think it was also a major anniversary of the original temple there (Nauvoo is where the LDS & the RLDS first split and where Joseph F. Smith and Brigham Young took over their respective movements, Smith led his group to Independence, MO and Young his to Salt Lake City, Utah), so maybe it was an open house type thing.

For some reason thecourt refuses to answer my questions publicly. . Here is their latest p.m.to me concerning my post about them not answering our questions:
Apparently not to your pleasing.
Anti Mormons have convinced whomever to place in the library portion of catholic.com what I believe with regard to what is stated there. After I read through it all, it is false, false, and false.
Again, if I were investigating Catholicism or any other church, would you want me learning false information from sources whose only purpose to give “their understanding of that church’s beliefs”?
I recognize the purpose of Catholic Answers, Patrick Madrid and other paid and unpaid people. My purpose is state what is true about what I believe and refute and state without question that whether is on the forums here, the library portion of catholic.com or Patrick Madrid and other sources.
If you honestly seek to know what I believe, you are welcome to ask me or go to www.mormon.org, which has a chat option and ask there. Be prepared if you are seeking answers from me, www.mormon.org’s chat option, or the missionaries if you answered the recycled Anti Mormon garbage questions. I do not answer them. Now I will told I am hiding something — there is nothing to hide. Anything you want to know that is factual about my beliefs can certainly be answered.
I asked you specifically if Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers and if there are doctrines that are withheld from potential converts until they have been baptized into the Mormon religion.

me Once again you don’t answer and instead direct me to a website which basically says a Mormon missionary will contact me. You are aware that proselytizing on CAF is forbidden?

You’re not the only one he has sent pm’s to. I too have been graced with his pm’s.

It is totally clear that he is here proseltyzing, and has no intention of discussing anything in public that can be refuted.

What is funny though is that we are being given the impression that there is nothing to hide, yet nothing is being discussed out in the open in the thread itself. Go figure.🤷

I have told him in pm’s and in previous posts, that these forums/threads are for discussion, and not link chasing.

I’m thinking we’re going to see that screen name in blue before long.

I am a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and am wondering is it possible to have a indifference to my church instead of spreading inaccurate statements on the forums, …
What information has been inaccurate, and why?

What is the point if I am seeking to know if the Catholic church claims are accurate? Believing the enemies is real wise.
You have a very interesting accent! 🙂

What may I ask is your first language? Knowing that might make your conversation a bit more intelligible.

It’s always great to have people of different linguistic traditions here, as it spices up the “sound” of the forums so nicely. Thanks!

Who are you say want is accurate or not about my church?
Actually, I’m only interested in hearing about what you DO believe, so that I can compare it against the real truth, which comes from the Magisterium.

I always try to “fit” other’s beliefs into the truths of the Church, but if they contradict Church teaching they are obviously some perversion of “truth” meant to lead those who do believe them away from God.

When I hear someone say they believe an untruth it’s my duty to correct them, and to show them as thoroughly as possible how they are in error, and the consequences to them and to those they affect of that error.

I would HOPE that you would have the same consideration of me when you hear that I’m in “error”, according to your beliefs. 🙂

That gives us MANY very interesting things to talk about, and we are both obliged to keep talking to those we know are in error, now aren’t we? 🙂

Best to you, and don’t EVER get annoyed. Just keep telling us what YOU believe, and telling us how we are in “error”.

I got a PM too. The gist of it was that Mormon doctrine is fixed and defined, and if I have any questions I should ask thecourt. Why not ask Zerinus, or BDawg or ByuBoy? Because I would get different answers from each one.

Example: When I was LDS (1975-1986) it was universally taught that Jesus was polygamously married and had children. Is this still held to be true?

ByuBoy has said yes, because he accepts the extra-scriptural teachings of the LDS prophets and apostles as reflected in the LDS lesson manuals and in the Ensign magazine, not to mention seminal works like “Jesus the Christ” by James Talmadge.

BDawg would say possibly, for the same reasons.

Zerinus says no, because it is not in the standard works and Zerinus is a sola scriptura Mormon.

What say you, thecourt? And why? Cite an authoritative LDS source.

One thing that has been consistent is the replies I have given have not been pleasing to some — validating my point from the beginning — with differences between churches, its ok for my church to have statements placed here as the truth, and yet when a reply is given, the claim is made something is being hiden.

The fact is some of you wnat me to jump into the garbage with Anti Mormon enemies — I will not do it.

I am looking for evidence that my replies are not truth and why that the replies are not acceptable?

Proselytizing on CAF is forbidden, including the PM system. 😉

I have asked a question a number of times and I suppose that you are afraid to reply.

The question was prior to Vatican 2, non Catholics had to join your church or go to hell, now post Vatican 2 things have changed. God is unchangeable and yet your church prior to Vatican 2 made it clear you would receive salvation and who would not. (this is one of number of issues that will keep out of the Roman Catholic church). What is explanation of this?

Where did you get that idea? The Church has always and still does teach that salvation is obtained only through the Church

.Now that ive answered that could you answer my question about whether Mormons beleive Jesus and Sata were brothers?

Further refuting the lie that when you go to www.mormon.org you are being required to have missionaires, there are 2 main links on the home page, which PROVIDE INFORMATION – NO MISSIONAIRES NECESSARY. Ask a question, depending how you word your question will suggest to the church that having missionaires answer your questions in person is best. Is that such a bad thing or are Catholics forbidden by Rome from coming into a meetinghouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?

I was also the recipient of a delightful PM from “thecourt” several days ago. He yelled in ALL CAPS!!!1! at me for talking about his church and ordered me to go to his missionary website. He is a rather inept ambassador for the LDS church, if I may say so.

thecourt PM’d me demanding evidence that the LDS Church has taught that Jesus was plurally married and had offspring, etc.

Here you go:

The Mormon Jesus was a polygamist.

This is but a tiny sample of the documentation, in roughly chronological order.
  1. Jesus was a polygamist, married to Mary Magdalene, Mary and Martha the sisters of Lazarus, and perhaps others. Also, Jesus had children.
“I discover that some of the Eastern papers represent me as a great blasphemer, because I said, in my lecture on Marriage, at our last Conference, that Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he begat children.”
(President Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v2, p210)

“It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and on a careful reading of that transaction, it will be discovered that no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha [the sisters of Lazarus] and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved [Mary Magdelene], must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the best of it.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 4:259)

One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus - such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them, and associated with them much; and when He arose from the dead, instead of first showing Himself to His chosen witnesses, the Apostles, He appeared first to these women, or at least to one of them - namely, Mary Magdalene. Now, it would be very natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were his wives. (Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 159)

“We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into the relation whereby he could see his seed, before He was crucified. “Has he indeed passed by the nature of angels, and taken upon himself the seed of Abraham, to die without leaving a seed to bear his name on the earth?” No. But when the secret is fully out, the seed of the blessed shall be gathered in, in the last days; and he who has not the blood of Abraham flowing in his veins, who has not one particle of the Saviour’s in him, I am afraid is a stereotyped Gentile, who will be left out and not be gathered in the last days; for I tell you it is the chosen of God, the seed of the blessed, that shall be gathered.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 2:82)
  1. Jesus and the apostles were persecuted and killed for being polygamists.
“The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age. A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers. We might almost think they were Mormons."
(Prophet Jedediah M. Grant, Journal of Discourses, Vol.1, p.346, August 7, 1853)
  1. Early Mormon leaders were direct descendants of Jesus.
Joseph Smith was the first to reveal this teaching, when he informed the plural wife of Apostle Judge Adams, that the Apostle “was a literal descendant of Jesus Christ.” (Oliver B. Huntington Journal, p. 259)

Prophet Lorenzo Snow, and his counselor George Q. Cannon, later declared this doctrine publicly:

President George Q. Cannon also spoke … he said, "There are those in this audience who are descendants of the old Twelve Apostles - and shall I say it, yes, descendants of the Saviour Himself. His seed is represented in this body of men.
Following Pres. Cannon, President Snow arose and said that what Bro. Cannon had stated respecting the literal descendants among this company of the old apostles and the Saviour himself is true - the Saviour’s seed is represented in this body of men. (Journal of Pres. Rudger Clawson, pp. 374-375)

We are not forbidden at all to discuss what we believe. Our Church wants us to answer ALL your questions and I think we do. I have a question though? Is there one or two persons behind your computer proselytizing; like when you come door to door? I am just asking a simple question because missionaries have told me that their needs to be 2 of them at all times to proselytize so that the Holy Spirit can direct them in speaking All the truths and hold nothing back from people who ask questions concerning Mormon teachings? Does your church allow you to give ALL the answers to people who truly want to understand your religion? Or do they instruct you to withhold SOME teachings so one stays empty until the next meeting?

What you’re doing is a form of prosteltizing, you realize this don’t you? It’s also against the rules to prosteltize through the private message system.

If you want to have a discussion, discuss and quit trying to get people to speak to your “missionaries”.

I like that, “depending on how you word your question” statement. I simply typed in “mountain meadows”, and nothing. “seer stone” --nothing. “whore of bablyon”—again nothing. Seems to me that mormon.org doesn’t want you to search too deep on certain issues.

It is just another way to get a missionary on your front door step.

As far as your question about Catholics being forbidden by Rome from coming into a meeting house, no we aren’t forbidden, we just don’t care to. A mormon meeting house holds nothing for a practicing Catholic. Your question also shows that either you have a complete lack of understanding of the Catholic Church, or it was a very poor attempt at a snyde remark.

Tell you what. You want everyone to understand the lds. Why not try understanding the CatholicChurch, and the Mass. Where Jesus is truly present.
