Ok, maybe it’s a little strange to be asking this so early, but I was recently reading stories about people taking care of their elderly parents, and it got me thinking.
I’m an only child, and currently living with my parents. (I have health problems of my own.) They’re in their mid-60’s, and have quite a few health problems already.
Well, I know that at some point in the future their health will really start to decline. (There’s a pretty bad history of dementia on my dad’s side.) And I know that someday I’ll be taking care of them.
So, is there anything I should be thinking about at this point? Preparations? Things we should talk about? (All we’ve done at this point is their wills, and health care proxy/power of attorney stuff.)
For those of you who are currently taking care of your parents, what do you wish you had known/done ahead of time?
Anybody?
