Maybe some help on the porn issue

Before my husband and I got married, I knew that he looked at porn occasionally and had a small collection. After we started going to RCIA classes, (we join this easter!), we listened to the arguments against porn and agreed that they made a lot of sense, and got rid of the collection. Now, granted, I don’t think that he was ever what you would call an addict, but I think that porn is a HUGE temptation for most men. But, now he tells me that he has a solution that really works when he gets the occasional urge to check out naked ladies on the computer: He thinks about how much the porn invades every aspect of the computer and slows it down. The cookies and what-not that these sites use completely change the computer for good, and not in a good way! (Maybe a cheap metaphor for the human soul?) So, maybe this is something to think about to help those people who are fighting the urge. Just my two cents.

I agree that messing up your computer and opening yourself up to all kinds of viruses and scams can be a deterrent. But I have to be honest, for most men those annoyances won’t be enough to keep them away for good. Porn is quickly becoming a modern day “siren song” to men and many are crashing into the rocks and drowning.

He needs to get beyond surface risks and look at what pornography truly is. Below are some interesting facts about the word “pornography” I put in another post. This alone can speak volumes to a Christian man about what it truly is and how ugly and degrading it is.

The word “pornography” is actually derived from two ancient Greek words:

Ponhrovß (poneros) - The evil one.
and
**Graphê **- to make an Image of

IOW… the word pornography means to make an image of the evil one.

The Greeks also had several variations of *poneros * they would use in other contexts. See below:

IOW… Pronography = An image of a woman being raped as a bought slave.

Well, I completely agree that the messing-up-the-computer thing is just a surface issue. But it is a part of his arsonal. Luckily for him, this is not one of his big temptation issues. Sneaking a cigarette in the house while reading politics on the computer is much harder for him to resist. I am very lucky in the husband department. The process of joining the Church has made us look twice at a lot of issues that we didn’t think were harmful before. (contraception, pornography, euthinasia, etc.)

Pornography is really dangerous for everyone involved in it. I hope that any tiny piece of information to help prevent becoming a part of it is helpful.

I just read about so many people on this website that struggle so hard, and I feel terrible for them. I try to remember to pray for them every time I read about it.

I have to say wow. Ive never really thought of how bad porn has been hurting me until today. I agree with every post I have read on here today about the subject.

I have to admit I am addicted. I never really thought of it as an addiction, I always have been told its “ok” to look, as long as no one gets hurt. I see now that people really do get hurt. I grew up with a mom that left me when I was younger to go with my aunt to be a stripper, and later work in a brothel. She has since changed her ways and is an very devout Christian, and wonderful mother. My aunt on the other hand isnt, she still is in the “business”. Ive been trying to stay away from porn for months, and I do good for a few weeks, then Im catching myself taking a “peek”. But I have to say, after reading what I have read today, I vow to focus all of my attention to not going back to the “dark site” (star wars pun intended lol). I dont want to hurt my relationship with my fiance, and more than that, I dont want the taint on my soul. Im still new to the whole Catholicism thing, Im not a Catholic yet, and I havent gone to church in a long time. But in all honesty, I really am sorry to all the people I hurt, and hope that through God, and with the prayers of all of you, that I will never look at porn again. I want to live a good life.

Aside from that, I dont have any major flaws. I love my fiance very, very much. She supports me in everything in my life, and me being in the Navy, I need all the support I can get. I hope that I dont look bad in any of your eyes . and thank you for listening.
