So, you condone the judgmental behavior of others on this board? You’re alright with people on here condemning others to hell? That’s very Christian of you, nilofc.
I suspect he, like i , wonders where you come off judging a forum that you have belonged to for about a week and have contributed under 20 posts to.

Not that I have to explain myself to you, estesbob, but I followed this forum long before I joined. And, if you check out the TV show thread, you’ll notice I’ve been actively involved in that, and have been condemned to hell a couple times on it. If you deny that there is too much judgment going on around here, then you haven’t examined the forum all that well.

I guess we will all have to admit you know a lot more about the forum than I do…

This board is a bastion for preaching the bad news. Personally, I don’t believe there is anything Christ-like about this board. There are mostly Pharisees on here who are miserable and want to make others miserable. Jesus didn’t do this–and He reprimanded the people who did. Personally, I would rather read the Bible for my spiritual health than listen to a bunch of downers do exactly what Christ said not to do. To promote the idea that Christ is going to shun you just for being a sinner is ludicrous. The people that Christ does have a problem with are those who spread around this judgmental garbage.

Bottom line–if you are trying to learn about Jesus and his love, this probably isn’t the place for you. If you want to feel like pond-scum just because you had the misfortune of being born a human being, you’ve found a home here.

IMHO things are getting out of hand in this forum, especially in the “Moral Theology” section. I see very little Christian love being demonstrated. Remember, Christ dined with sinners and tax collectors. I doubt if he would have been invited if he demonstrated the “social grace” of many of the posters here. Even if you have the correct message, presenting it in a hateful and viscous way will do nothing to convince those in error. I was driven away from the Catholic church I love several years ago by this forum. If you search hard enough you will find a similar, non active screen name. By the grace of God I came back to the Church. I believe it may be my calling to keep others from falling because of ignorance and bigotry.
Similar experience as OP. People can be WAY too harsh on this forum. We’re Catholics, not Puritans. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying good food, good drink, and good smoke as long as it is done in the proper way.

Of course we should never lead someone to think that a sin is not a sin with mealy-mouthedness but at the same time many of the posts here just seem to reek of spiritual pride - and don’t think for a second that it’s not a problem I deal with myself.
Enjoy your self-righteousness!

To hell with this whole forum. I left it once before for the same reason and nothing has changed.
There are the know it alls that come to this forum, & if You don`t agree with them, then You suffer their wrath. They are just sure that they know it all , & all self righteous
:clapping::yup:

Yeah, chill out dudes. The only opinion I take seriously here is Fr. Serpa’s. He’s always kind and friendly. 👍

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been a member of this site since 2004 and have left for a year at a time due to some of the posts I’ve seen in this section. This is a prime example (the quote). I mean, are you kidding me?? We are entirely too quick judge.

I joined a while back and have been on and off it for the reasons listed by the OP. My most recent departure, after being active on the forum for several months in a row, came after not a little consideration on my part. I came back here in November of 2008 after being chased off LiveJournal’s Catholic community by liberals who accused me of being “self-hating” – their words, not mine – just because I am bicelibate (bisexual but celibate) and I’m not a supporter of same-sex marriage. I came here looking for refuge, and I got roundly attacked by rigorists who were so lacking in charity that my faith in the Church is in a bad state.

Please, brothers and sisters, remember that behind the posts, behind the screennames, there are other human beings, fallen and fallible men and women with hearts that can be broken and spirits that can be wounded by unkind words, or which can be healed and lifted up by kind words. Remember that there are people carrying heavy crosses, in whom Christ is living and suffering. Which would you rather be: a Simon of Cyrene helping these people carry their crosses or a Veronica offering her veil to wipe their faces, or would you rather be one of the soldiers kicking them in the ribs every time the weight of their cross makes them stagger and fall? Please, think before you fire off that incendiary post full of angry put-downs and scathing criticism: if you suddenly realized that Christ was somehow posting on this forum, through a suffering man or woman for whom He shed His Precious Blood, how would you respond to Him?

I have also noticed that there are a number of posters on the forum who are not the most tactful in their responses. And while they may have worthy comments, the manner in which they are conveyed completely overshadows the comments themselves. There is a saying that ‘you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar’. And I think most people instinctively know this to be true.
