Meat last Friday

So I opened a can of chicken noodle soup instead of the vegetable soup I had bought for Friday. Instead of wasting the chicken soup, I ate it thinking that it would be less of an offense. I’m actually indifferent to the 2 types of soup, and I was actually looking forward to the vegetable soup. Did I sin?
Yes, if you die, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly to hell. 😃

Joking of course.

The lenten abstinence of meat of Friday, is a penance we try for, not a condition for the state of our souls if we fail and die before getting to Confession.

Turn to Jesus for help. He knows your mistake better than anyone one here.

Why don’t you just ask a priest? My own personal opinion is that if you forgot, it was understandable that you would eat the soup you opened. I had my own situation on Ash Wednesday where I went into a McDonald’s and out of habit ordered the thing I always get for breakfast, which had meat on it. I just wasn’t thinking. I had already purchased the item and had my hand on the car door to open it when I realized I had meat. Did I throw it away instead of eating it? No. I was on my way somewhere and would be there for most of the day - no cooler to put it in to save it & take home. I wasn’t going to throw it away and waste it. So, if you are going to hell for eating meat like some posters here seem to reply, I guess you’ll see me there too.
