Since learning about Friday penance, I’ve tried and failed to not eat meat twice now. I just forget and by the time I remember, it’s too late. What can I do to make this up? Is there another form of penance I can do? Should I confess it?

Oh, and by the way, happy feast of the Immaculate Conception (almost)!

Yes, you can do another form of penance or act of charity instead. 🙂

From the EWTN site:
On the Fridays outside of Lent the U.S. bishops conference obtained the permission of the Holy See for Catholics in the US to substitute a penitential, or even a charitable, practice of their own choosing. They must do some penitential/charitable practice on these Fridays. For most people the easiest practice to consistently fulfill will be the traditional one, to abstain from meat on all Fridays of the year. During Lent abstinence from meat on Fridays is obligatory in the United States as elsewhere.

You ARE in the US, I trust - otherwise you’d need to consult your own country’s Bishop’s conference for the regulations regarding Friday penance.

Mention in confession that you haven’t done any Friday discipline. Then say that you tried to abstain from meat on two occasions and forgot / failed.
The priest will probably advise you. A good penance is to say the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary.

Two places in scripture I would point you to:

1 Sam 15:22

and

Romans 14:1-7
